TBH I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Or at least I think there is a good chance it will.

Not to say I agree with it, though we live in dangerous times!

An illustration of why it is not a good idea for the likes of Rayner to call their political opponents "scum". Some are going to see it as a call to such action.

Jesus, how horrible.
Access to our MPs is a pretty fundamental part of our parliamentary system and I can only see these incidents happening again with nutters on both sides. How can we protect our MPs?

I'll put a fiver on it not being a left-wing Labour type.

Maybe wait until there's some news on the person who did it before blaming people for things they've said.

Nobody deserves being attacked in their workplace, let alone a public servant

Regardless of your political viewpoint this is a horrific thing to happen

The victim is 69 years old

May he make a quick and speedy recovery

Maybe just a little basic decency and respect until we know if the poor sod is going to survive?

Seriously.

I think we can agree this is the action of someone on the "extreme" edge of a policital spectrum.

Whether they are right or left remains to be uncovered

Or....more likely: they're neither. Could just be mental health related, or whatever else it is that causes people to attempt to kill others

Very sad news, and it just reminds me of the terrible murder of Jo Cox.
Multiple stab wounds doesn't sound good, but hoping he pulls through...
I want to enjoy seeing him in the House of Commons again making his case for Southend gaining City status in his light-hearted manner....! smile

They aren't listening to her as a Labour MP, they're listening to her (either directly or because of the news about her comments) as someone in the public eye who called Tory MPs 'scum'.

He’s my local MP and I drove past the cordoned off area a short while ago and wondered what going on.

I’ll make no comment about his abilities as an MP but I do hope he recovers - nobody deserves that.
