I was in the arena for it and it was just mega. A really special moment. That said, great job from Thor here. Amazing.

Thor has been featured in Juji & Tom's and Magnus Midtbo's videos, he's a very impressive power/weight lifter indeed.

I’m sure I read somewhere that it’s not an official dead lift record because it hasn’t been set during a competition. I’m sure they worded it as a gym dead lift record or something along those lines.

It was all on his terms,no waiting about,no competition jitters,no faffing about by WSM or Giants live officials or referees.
It’s an impressive lift but everything was in his favour and within his control. If you watch other strongmen they all agree that these record lifts shouldn’t be done in their gyms at home.

Not sure anyone said he SMASHED it?

Anyway, he made it look very easy. There's more weight to be had.

Hes an absolute monster. More to be had, hes done it easily and I can see him saving 505 etc for a big event.

I've seen the videos with Brian et al saying this and while I agree mostly, the 500 was very much tailored round Eddie. I've seen things tweaked in a PL comp to allow a lifter an extra attempt if they're going for a record too. It'd be much better in comp (and the way it went up I can't see it being an issue), but we're in unprecedented times. I wouldn't want to waste a peak and I'm a piss poor natty gym lifter. These guys are packing on extra weight and 'supplementation' with all those health implications.
The handbags between Thor and Eddie are at silly proportions now, the boxing match will make them both a huge amount of money though.

One thing that doesn't appear to be mentioned is that I suspect a lot of athletes are getting the best training of their lives at the moment without the constant fear of drug testers knocking on the door.

Carefully crafted protocols will be out of the window and they will be smashing everything in.

Imo after watching how fast Thor pulled that 501 yesterday, I believe he could pull a 510/520 with a crowd cheering him on.

It’s funny seeing Eddie Hall & his precious fans instantly screaming ‘it’s a gym record only, wasn’t done in competition’.
Fact remains, Thor lifted it much easier than Eddie did, he didn’t collapse Instantly after, he didn’t have blood coming out of every orifice and was talking on the mic 5 mins after only partially out of breath.

If they fight it’ll be terrible, but no doubt will bring in a lot of money for their promoters.

Well done Hafthor.

Really looking forward to seeing the Stoltmans go for their records now. Think they'll both smash it.

There’s no drug testing at any time.

If there was strongman competitions would need to lower the weights in each event considerably. The stacks those guys take is sizeable to say the least.

Not on strong man no, I was thinking more of other sports which at least have a semblance of testing, enough to avoid certain substances anyway.

Read the link again..... But I had the same thought "smashed" by 1kg...

One thing to consider, how much does he weigh compared to Hall? He has to be a good foot taller for starters
