king up anything important. The EU itself has changed a lot since 1988 - particualrly the number of member states that have joined since then. Some of these newer countries may have fairly weak or non-esistant legislation in place for certain things. I would suggest that (say) Bulgaria or Roumania may not have fairly well devel;oped consumer legislation or health and dafety regulations, for example.
Britain often has regulations in place that EXCEED the requirements of the comparable EU directive.
From what I can see, this particular directive will have no affect on the UK at all. And as far as I can see, it bans absolutely nothing.

We outlaw things like lead paint on toys kids may chew on, etc. However, the small bits that are choking hazards come with a warning to such on the box, it is up to the parents to be wary. God I dread this type crap!
Plastic bags have had suffocation warnings on them since the mid 1970s.Indeed, I would suggest that the US leads the world in such areas, not so much because of legislation, but because of the litigious nature of American society.

Never trust an organisation that claims to present the "truth" behind claims. They are interpreting as much as any other news outlet and therefore just as likely to be biased. In this case as it is an EU directive, even if it were the same as existing legislation, it will be enforced more pedantically than before. This is, therefore, a bad development. 0a said:

Enforce what? - a non-existant ban?
