David Cameron's Big Conference Speech
Discussion
I think it was, overall, a good speech. Little was controversial, he sounded like a PM in contrast to Ed last week who sounded like a student. Good to hear the Tories are sticking to the line that debt and spending are the problems and private business the solution. It remains to be seen how this will extend to helping businesses on the ground though.

He's a Politician. Soundbites and nonsense written by a faceless speech writer.
The soundbites and nonsense probably came at least in part from Steve Hilton. Not as many as previously, maybe, because the 'soft' areas favoured by Hilton as a strategist weren't particularly evident. Then again, you wouldn't want to overwork your £275k p.a. strategy director who may well still be living with his squeeze who got a job working for Google in sunny California. From which location and with an internet connection a conference speech would be easy meat.
Here's his face

As of July this year: "Earlier this week, The Daily Telegraph disclosed there was growing impatience among Downing Street aides at the apparent failure of the Treasury to develop creative policies to boost Britain's lacklustre economy. Mr Hilton is now understood to be playing a leading role trying to develop radical policies to help business and boost employment."
Yay we're saved

Soundbite or not I liked the 'not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog' line. Probably borrowed from Blunkett.

I'm interested. How long before the BBC start laying into it?
Apparently the key point of this speech (per the BBC) is Cameron's not particularly controversial call for people to pay down their debt. According to the BBC this shows how out of touch Cameron is with the working classes (a familiar theme for them).Edited by JagLover on Wednesday 5th October 18:57
