Aliens May Destroy Humanity If We Don't Save The Planet
Discussion
From the Guardian: "Aliens may destroy humanity to protect other civilisations, say scientists
Rising greenhouse emissions may tip off aliens that we are a rapidly expanding threat, warns a report for Nasa"
I wish I could sit there writing sci-fi stories for a job! How do they know that aliens might look at any detectable changes to the planet as a positive change in any case?

Rapidly expanding? We haven't left low earth orbit since 1972. I doubt they're losing much sleep.Rising greenhouse emissions may tip off aliens that we are a rapidly expanding threat, warns a report for Nasa"

How did I know that this thread was going to be about CO2 when I clicked on it?Rising greenhouse emissions may tip off aliens that we are a rapidly expanding threat, warns a report for Nasa"

The Guardian is really thick enough to publish this s

I checked the byline, and the story really is written by their science correspondent.Anyway, I don't think that we need to worry, because whatever planet Ian Sample, (science correspondent
), is on, it most certainly is not Earth.Don

What a load of twaddle, exhibiting the usual failure, assuming that any Aliens would have thought processes and beliefs similar to ours.
Equally logical would be to suggest Aliens might arrive and say, "Oh, look at this lot, they've not yet mastered perpetual energy and travel beyond the speed of light, let's explain the technology and help them".

Googling seems to suggest the original press release was drafted in 1898:
No one would have believed, in the early years of the 21st century, that our world was being watched by intelligences greater than our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, they observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency, men went to and fro about the globe, confident of our empire over this world. Yet across the gulf of space, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic regarded our planet with envious eyes...and slowly, and surely, drew their plans against us.

Typical of the Guardian to pick up on the ridiculous "green" alien scenario covered in the report.
However I think it's interesting that Shawn Domagal-Goldman of Nasa's Planetary Science Division and his colleagues actually think that extra-terrestrial life has the ability to reach us.
On reading the first few pages it actually looks like a very interesting and sensible report.

I read this. I thought they were saying it may be possible but it is impossible to tell. However I think it's interesting that Shawn Domagal-Goldman of Nasa's Planetary Science Division and his colleagues actually think that extra-terrestrial life has the ability to reach us.

This is nonsense, aliens will not be coming to Earth.
Over on Gleepop 5, space fuel has risen to 500 space credits per space litre. Many have taken advantage of the space scrappage scheme to switch from faster than light intergalactic starships to economical diesels. Many have bought BMW 320Ds to take advantage of the low company car tax. This is the reason NASA refer to Gleepop 5 as 'the grey planet'.

This. A new low has been reached.I think the barrel is being scraped now.
I fully expect firstface, ludo, kerplunk et all to use this on the climate threads now as proof that we need to spend more cash on stuff.

Seriously though...I think NASA could be onto something here. I mean, maybe they're referring to Manbearpig's species, since clearly Manbearpig is not from this planet!

The fact that the once renowned NASA still considers there is ANY real warming attributable to anthropogenic CO2 emissions leaves me thinking > I'm glad I'm not a US Tax payer!
Anyway what is to say that "Intelligent" extra terrestrial life would not be plant based and actually enjoy a visit to eat up some of our C02?
