BBC said:
Incidents like this, however, could become more common.

The reason is climate change. As rising temperatures melt the sea ice, the number of polar bears may rapidly dwindle. That could mean that there are far fewer bears surviving for people to come into conflict with. But if polar bear numbers fall, we may revere them even more, with more tourists and adventurers flocking to catch a final glimpse of these animals.
I've never heard anything like it - clutching at straws just doesn't describe this nonsense. But it continues...

BBC said:
If the sea ice retreats, it will also mean that more polar bears will be forced to hunt further inland. And that means more polar bears roaming around parts of the Arctic and sub-Arctic that people call home.
Yeah, because think of all the people who live in the Arctic who don't already come into contact with these creatures. And there's more...

BBC said:
"I can't comment on the particular details of the bear attack in Svalbard but, unfortunately, polar bear-human conflicts are very likely going to increase in many parts of the circumpolar Arctic as climate warming progresses," Gregory Thiemann, professor of environmental science from York University, Ontario, Canada, told BBC Nature.
So global warming, not that they can prove it, melts the ice reducing polar bear numbers as they'll drown (lets ignore the inconvenient truth that they're actually brilliant swimmers wink ). The remaining bears head inland to the densely populated Cities of the Arctic where they discover a taste for human flesh, only exacerbated by 'polar bear tourism'. Are they all fking insane? I also can't believe they'd dare use such a tragedy to spout such tripe. rolleyes

Already covered in the other thread, but you're right.

As soon as I heard the news, I KNEW there'd be a MMGW angle on it, ESPECIALLY if it was from the BBC.

You couldn't make this bks up, could you? And I wonder how many people will simply swallow this guff, without stopping to think. mad

Nothing to do with holiday makers going to where polar bears live then?

I was way off.

Wait until polar bears learn how to use machine guns - then we will be in REAL trouble.

Not only have they learned how to use machine guns, but they'e obviously been able to transport themselves down to the Antartic too.

Come on know Eric, it has already been pointed out in other threads. Polar Bears are good swimmers. Do you deny this?

They should start putting peer reviewed references in their reports to back up their claims....

oh wait, the peer review process has already been bksed by these AGW idiots as well. Remember those climate gate emails that showed blatant talk about removing certain doubters from the peer review process so that they could only have their work reviewed by people who already agree with them? Then theres the IPCC.....

Or maybe Global Warming forced them both to migrate to the tropical climate of Europe in Spring earlier this year where the battle for territory took place?
