I was going to put
in the title but of course thats not allowed
So as well as this costing 18 million to evict them, it is now being delayed and further costs are being added "while bailiffs undergo 'cultural awareness training'"

FFS will we ever get rid of the Human Rights Act?

sOf course the Daily Mail article is inaccurate. There will be no further delay regarding the eviction process, the 28 day notice of eviction has been served and will proceed. The so called training is a legal requirement which the Council have no choice but to comply.
Big question is, where will these people go next?

I can tell you where they won't go - anywhere near where I live.Big question is, where will these people go next?
They aren't terribly keen on small islands where you can't disappear and can't leave with out booking your vehicles onto expensive ferries through CCTV and having to wait for an hour in a ferry queue while the police turn up and have a rummage through your Transit. I heven't seen a single one in all the years I've lived here.

There's rumours that they are going to just drive across town and pitch-up on land at Rawreth, which will put them about a mile away from me.Big question is, where will these people go next?

The Scottish Widows policy wording is perfectly clear: loss of two hands or feet. What on earth is he moaning about? If he had wanted the enhanced cover mentioned by the broker (who is clearly trying to get some "we fight for consumers against nasty insurance compaines" PR out of this), he should have contacted them and paid the "enhanced" premiums too. Idiot.

I just wish that Central Governments would take more of a lead in resolving situations that travellers find themselves in, whatever that might mean.

Saw on the local news last night that some bible basher now suggests that he is standing by the travellers and said something along the lines of "we need to find them somewhere permanent to live" - which I thought somewhat undermined his understanding of the people, and indeed the clue being in the title......

I'm sure there are be plenty of islands just off Scotland would be ideal.
Suggesting we build a wall around it, Escape from New York style, would of course be discriminating against these honest, law abiding, salt of the earth types.
It doesn't need a wall, just don't sail any boats to it and make sure there's no construction materials on the island. I like to imagine it would become like Easter Island.Suggesting we build a wall around it, Escape from New York style, would of course be discriminating against these honest, law abiding, salt of the earth types.
New legislation required here.
Upon eviction from an illegal encampment, they may be offered a house or permanent site to be funded at their own expense. Should they refuse to accept that, then they must make legal arrangements to pitch their wagons and house their tribe without destroying our public spaces. Until such official paperwork is produced, their caravans will be confiscated. Once in a legal place, they must be registered at that place as a permanent residence - names, ages, employers / taxes, cars registered, caravans etc..
Should they not comply, they are in violation of the law and can be evicted immediately every time they drop the jacks on their caravans. Three evictions and their caravans are confiscated, but this time, crushed. Any car found untaxed / uninsured is confiscated and crushed immediately as mine would be.
Of course, first we need to find some public servants who are not s
t scared of them to implement these new rules.
