Sounds like something out of a hollywood film...

Two prisoners have escaped from a jail van after it was ambushed by armed men on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.
A number of men attacked the van in Trinity Way at about 0830 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.
They fled in a Saab, which was later found abandoned in Barrow Street in the Islington area of Salford.
A security guard has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Det Sgt Paul Copplestone urged anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police.
Traffic congestion
He said: "We are sure that this incident was witnessed by many people at a very busy time of the morning. The Saab was driven off towards the M602 motorway.
"We would urge witnesses to contact us."
Police cordoned off a section of a bridge in Trinity Way, close to the junction with Regent Road.
A white Leyland DAF G4S security van remained in the middle of the bridge with its driver's side door open and a police car parked behind it.
Traffic was being diverted from both sides of the bridge, causing congestion in the city centre.

Is that down near Renault Manchester? If so aren't there massive roadworks under way just near Salford Cathedral causing massive holdups? Wouldn't fancy being a getaway driver round there at the moment.
The other end - near Regent Road, but similar traffic madness anyway, couldn't have been easy making a get away.S18DMW said:
A Saab getaway car. That's just lacking ambition.
Perhaps an Aero - strong and quick! Can't tell from the pic what flavour it was though.

I'm guessing that the person who wrote that article does not have English as a first language, or more worryingly no concept of the flow of time. That was almost unintelligable in partsCan't tell from the pic what flavour it was though.

Just read this on a couple of news sites, Very much like something from a film! No doubt the escapees will be on their way to somewhere warm very soon, lets just hope the Police are not very far behind!
Why do we not have POLICE driving prisoners around (preferably Armed!), why is it all subcontracted to G4S???

Swear the people who drive/work on these G4S things are chumps. They need guns, and some proper men driving them. Try and attack the van, you get gunned down or roughed up.
Having encountered the shocking driving of some of the G4S drivers in the past, they should be in the back with the prisoners! Why do we not have POLICE driving prisoners around (preferably Armed!), why is it all subcontracted to G4S???

Because its cheaper.
AIUI "Important" prisoners still get police escorts. I used to work near Strangeways and used to see police vehicles escorting some prison vehicles regularly. I'm not sure what you need to be banged up for to merit a Police escort. However the standard of driving displayed by the police escorts (very high speed driving at very close proximity) was pretty ferkin impressive.

Because 99.9% of the time nothing happens, so you are paying a policeman with all their training and experience (and therefore salary) to be a truck driver.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
