What a shame. No more legal aid, us paying them to screw us.

Don't really understand how you could get legal aid for immigration issues anyway, part of "further/indefinate leave to remain" is that you don't have recourse to public funds.

But what about illegal immigrants and asylum seekers who want(ed) to find a way of staying? Idiot NuLabour handwringers chucking money at lawyers to find loopholes.

Just one point. There are some genuine asylum seekers. People who genuinely will be killed if they stay in their own country, just because they kissed someone, or didn't wear a head scarf.

We should take those people in, educate them if needs be, and set them to work just like the rest of us.

I agree there is some awful stuff going on out in the World, but it's easy to use stuff liek this as "soundbites" to illustrate the problem, but perhaps these people should not have kissed them or worn the headscarf after all..? Rest of their country lives by the rules of where they live, even when they are st? There's draconian st going on all over the world, we cant take them all in to the UK or the West. Perhaps the Middle East unrest is starting to illustrate how these people need to userp in order to help themselves, maybe. In the Middle Ages, UK was pretty draconian and st, ............Bradford still is! biggrin

Ok but ignore the specific examples I gave. I was just trying (and apparently I failed) to give some examples of silly things that can get you killed.

If you prefer. How about those who'll be killed because they allowed themselves to be gang raped while on the way home from the shops? Or because they have the wrong parents.

To change a Government/society it needs to be a movement. Sometimes 1 persons struggle can be a flash point for such a movement. But if it's not happened, and that person has the ingenuity to get out with their life and arrives in the UK. I'm happy to let them stay. Probably be a damn sight more use to us than some of our own.

If Britain solely relied on the Brits, the country would have sunk decades ago.

Reuters said:
Ali G's immigration policy from Ali G In Da House ‘only the fittest illegal immigrants should be allowed in’ has been implemented at the immigration processing centre in Croydon.

An investigation by the Sun newspaper revealed;

Brazilian girls were treated best of all.

If male and female Brazilian migrants came in to extend their visas, the guy would get one year and the girl two — even if both had the same level of paperwork. The girl would only have to smile, bend over the desk and she’d get longer. Officers used to say about ugly girls: “She’s bloody disgusting — let’s send her back anyway.”

Ugly ones laughed at

If an immigrant was ugly, several officers would leave their desks to go behind a screen and laugh at her passport picture. The photo would be copied and pinned up on a wall

Pretty ones first

Our source told how pretty girls would be seen within minutes while other migrants faced queuing for hours. The prettiest were issued with visas the same day, and offered jobs in bars and clubs, and as au pairs.
I'd got further, for every dusky hottie we let in, we should deport a fat pasty British single Mum.

In.

Out.

And which of these countries do we share a border with? I'm gonna guess none. If you're in fear of your life in your own country, seek asylum in the nearest possible safe country, do not travel through dozens of countries to get to the one you fancy and then start claiming you're in mortal danger because you know what, it makes your story sound like an excuse to live in a country you've chosen entirely for financial reasons.

Oh I'm far from suggesting we just open the borders! But we should have a process for identifying the genuine from the scrounger.

confused We share a border with any country that has access to the sea or sky. Which is most of them.

I used to do asylum work.

Most of them travel throught he whole of Europe to reach the English promised land of free everything for life.

They don't flee and stop when they're safe, they flee and stop when they get to the free English money and NHS.

That's fine I'd send those back through which ever border they came in through. But we should still identify those who do arrive here 1st, and genuinely have a case to seek asylum. If that's just 10 a year that's fine. But to suggest we should just go "no" to everybody regardless is not right.

If they are genuine asylum seekers, they won't have risked travelling through 10 countries to get here. You only do that because you want to be in the UK, not because you fear for your life.

Look at a map of the globe! The only legitimate asylum seekers in England are the Welsh and Scots. For most asylum seekers there would have been a far closer safe country. They come here for a reason, and it isn't their safety. Does anyone remember that Somali who couldn't be sent back for safety reasons, yet after committing a crime fled to (well, guess).
