Just noticed that the 'McCanns are back' thread and 280 odd pages has been moved then removed.

There were many contributors who invested a lot of time in that, and it even brought quite a few new posters to PH.

Mods, or anyone else who knows, I realise that there must have been legitimate reasons for this, but can you hint what they were?

I was catching up on it earlier today ( having been at Goodwood the last week) and I was on about page 289/290 when I got a 'nothing to see here'.

I hope they edit out the 'bad stuff' and reinstate the thread as it's an important piece of information.

I am sorry that the thread has gone, but it did start to become more about the PH posters than the topic in hand. I really enjoyed the debate and it has opened my eyes to a lot of new evidence/facts/speculation about the case.

Would be interesting to see what the mods/admin have to say about this. I am hoping they're just having a clean up of the thread and removing of the arguments in it rather than deleting the thread itself

Did anyone keep a copy of this thread? There were lots of good points & links worth keeping. Even some of BSR contributions need keeping.

dear oh dear. When on topic was one of the most enlightening of threads. Perhaps the Find Maddie fund paid for some lawyers to look at it too.

I'm no Internet genius, could someone indicate if the fact I get this indicates something higher than PH mod involvement?

Sigh. I've seen this happen with McCann discussions on so many different boards and forums, though the threads are usually just locked, not summarily deleted. That's taking it to a new level. As said above, there was some really useful and well-researched stuff in there - plenty of people popped in to post that the information in that thread - information, not speculation - had led them to completely change their mind about what happened to Madeleine McCann.

The debate here was one of the very few 'mainstream' McCann discussions that survived - in fact, it might well have been the last. As such it was always likely to attract attention of outsiders with a long-term interest in the case (eg me), as well as those with a long-term interest in stifling that debate.

Looking back at the posts leading up to the deletion, there was a clear sense that some had been straining at the leash to demand the thread be closed, and were just waiting for an excuse. When it came - in the form of a post that though couched in qualification was still frankly asking for trouble - they pounced. The content of that post was instantly twisted in the most provocatively offensive terms imaginable. Stakes abruptly raised to the max, and mods swiftly alerted. As I say, it's a pattern I've seen so many times before.

Not sure why, but I thought Pistonheads mods would show a little more discretion and resilience. Couldn't the individual offending post - and the clumsily obvious hyperbole it aroused - simply have been deleted?

Of course this is correct.
Hmmm, I wonder which of the following two events caused that thread to be deleted
1) The speculation that Gerry was a paedophile, defended by 5 other people
2)Me strongly objecting to it.
Of course it was my fault rolleyes

Ironically, if you lot hadn't been so bloody minded and determined to try and contradict everything I say which in this case involved defending paedophile comments, then I have no doubt the thread would have been left to run.

its a topic i followed with interest without feeling the need to contribute but one thing that always bewildered me was how anyone could take such a strong stance in there defence, refusing to listen to the credible information provided by some of the doubters and turning the debate in to a farce with personal insults and slurs.

the arrival of 'forget it' was fascinating from a spectator's perspective, someone so intent on crushing the topic with a barrage of comments in just 48hrs, they had abviously read the whole 280+ pages in detail given some of the personal attacks to a few of the regular posters - imo it only went to cast more dark shadows over the mccann debate

its a shame it ended how it did but lets hope this thread stays clean and can continue on as I do enjoy a good conspiracy theory

Quite honestly I think you had better stay away from this thread in future. It's obviously something of a blind spot for you. I don't know if you are like this on other forums, but for some reason your behaviour here is showing all the hallmarks of your behaviour on the previous thread, which you ruined for those of us who found the subject matter deeply interesting.

So, would you please just go away and find a thread that is more to your liking.

I always thought it interesting how one could seemingly take such a stance on either side.
That little thread drew 'em like flies. People being labelled 'anti' and 'pro'. If this thread continues I hope that sort of nonsense doesn't crop up, or the playing the poster rather than the point, which sometimes went on ad infinitum.

As for the thread disappearing, any who had a hand in making any insidious allegations only have themselves to blame.

Slightly off topic, but there are a few like that, that spring to mind, the thread, the MMGW thread, PH has an ability to create long standing and fact filled threads that reach page one of google...wonder if this new incarnation will make it... wink
