Whatever your views of protesters, the fact he continued his protest in the face of so many attempts by Labour and the current government to remove him for so long was a pretty impressive achievement, IMO.

The veteran peace campaigner Brian Haw, who became a fixture in Parliament Square over the past decade, has died after "a long hard fight" against lung cancer, his family has announced.
The 62-year-old died in his sleep on Saturday in Germany, where he had been receiving treatment.
Haw began his round-the-clock protest opposite the Houses of Parliament on 2 June 2001.
The camp was initially a response to economic sanctions and British and US bombing raids on Iraq, but it grew in scope after the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington DC, and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq that followed.

He did mess up Parliament Square though.
He would argue the mess he caused outside their cushy warm building was nothing in relation to what they the government caused.I say fair play to the guy for having such conviction in standing up for what he believed in was right.
Shame on the NHS for not treating him... just shows what a primitive and bankrupt organisation it is when someone has to come here for the treatment. At least they DO cancer treatment here and don't keep people on waiting lists until they are terminal, to then decide they can die without the NHS doing any more!!!

Are you a bit of an idiot, or are you just pretending? You clearly don't know that the reason Haw was receiving cancer treatment in Germany was because he chose to get treatment from a 'Doctor' called Simoncini who believes bicarbonate of soda cures cancer and has to work in Germany because his native Italy has banned him from practising medicine due to fraud and wrongful death convictions. The Germans, however are still happy to let him practice apparently.http://gimpyblog.posterous.com/tag/brianhaw

Didn't know about that "treatment"!!!
Sorry for the error, however I know a few people in GB who've had to come to Germany to get fast treatment as the NHS failed them totally. I assumed this was the case here. Apologies for the wrong assumption....
NHS is not failing people its just they have a waiting list and its not like you can magically jump to the front of the queue because its you or a loved one that is ill.Sorry for the error, however I know a few people in GB who've had to come to Germany to get fast treatment as the NHS failed them totally. Whilst I understand what you are saying, but there is treatment for something like non life threatening illness and quite happy to wait and then there is life threatening illness and then you can bet I would get treatment from which ever country I could to make sure I was getting out of risk ASAP...
Somethings are not worth waiting for to get sorted.
My brother had a suspected cancerous lump in his shoulder (turned out to not being cancerous) and I offered to pay for all treatment rather than him wait for 6 weeks for the results off NHS when he could have been in and out in a few days.

Easily done, it wasn't widely known. In several cases I know of the NHS has paid to send patients to various EU countries for treatment to reduce their waiting time.Sorry for the error, however I know a few people in GB who've had to come to Germany to get fast treatment as the NHS failed them totally. It doesn't mean I always agree with the methods they may use to display those beliefs.
What should he have done instead? It doesn't mean I always agree with the methods they may use to display those beliefs.
Written a stern letter to The Times? And then another one if he was really cross?
That will teach them

I'd wager there are far more Germans in the UK making use of the NHS and their EU passport than there are English doing likewise in Germany, even if you include the English paying for private care. The NHS is a mess because we have 100 times more drugs in the last 20 years to help people than before, costing a 100 times more and we have 100 times the clever equipment costing 100 times more. These are simply the burdons of progress.
The NHS would work perfectly if the following were to happen:
All facile time wasters administered an aneasthetic in the form of a severe blow to the head.
All non British passport holders who are not UK tax payers to bugger off unless they have travel insurance.
The small number of NHS slackers taken out and shot.
Stupid and avoidable A&E visits billed directly to the buffoon.
Initial trip to GP free. £200/hour thereafter if after first visit the patient is deemed to be one of those f
king irritating time wasters who needs a good slap.CommanderJameson said:

Had a weekly protest
Shouted a lot at Hyde Park Corner
Lots of alternatives.

Not many people are prepared to put themselves out to even go on a march for something they have strong views about. At least the Parliament Square lot were prepared to make a mess, make themselves inconvenient and stand up for what they believed in. And they didn't have to vandalise the Cenotaph to make their point.

I mean on TV and radio.
I only found out in a tabloid- and it was given a casual tone and not much space.
Brian Haw dead, thousands of Iraqis dead, Briton's up to their eyeballs in debt, Blair becomes one of the wealthiest Britons.
I suspect that we will look back at some point and pinpoint the first decade of the 21st century to be one of the lowest points in Britain's history.
There is not a lot to be impressed about.
Frankly, their ought to be a memorial, if not a statue to Brian Haw on the exact corner where he spent the last 10 years to serve as a reminder to us and the inhabitants of the weasel cage of what happens when you discard your morals and go chasing shiny things.
