Do they have an AGM or something? Do they release smoke like the Vatican?

Surely it would be best to not say who the 'leader' was. I think this is simply being released so we have another figurehead, nothing more.

They do it with a game of Musical Chairs. Last man standing gets to be target.

I heard it was 'Suicide Chairs', the one that doesn't explode when the music stops holds the next leader tongue out

If I was Al-Zawahri I would be busy completely renouncing any ties to Al Qaeda. whistle

More to the point is why do 'we' need to announce it?
The Beeb led it as their first news today:

'Al-Qaeda has elected a new leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, following the death of Osama Bin Laden.'
(elected should probably read 'appointed' wink )

So what?
I couldn't give a damn, in fact it plays into their hands giving them publicity on the world stage.

The Daily Mash reporting this

article said:
The man who served for years as number two to Osama Bin Laden in a five man organisation will now have absolute authority over the trio of mildly bored jihadists who hang around a stty, half-built safe-house that is definitely not owned by the Pakistani secret service.

According to MI6 sources there is the guy that runs the website, the guy that does the shopping and the guy who gives amazing back rubs and sorts out the Cup-a-Soups.

This zawawi guy makes a crap rolemodel terrorist. At least OBL had the whole ' i've fought in battle' image behind him and any terrorist leader who wears glasses is blatantly fail!

IMHO!

Apparently he has pledged to carry on the war against the USA and Israel.

Now might be a good time to quietly disappear and contemplate our navels...

You're right in what you say. and that was my first thought but someone always wants to be first to broadcast/publish a news item. On the other hand, if I was him I wouldn't want the world to know, for fear of being shot dead in my underpants.

If they had any nous, they'd use the place the Seals just raided - no-one would suspect them of going back there. hehe

The reporting is hilarious, but also a bit worrying. The BBC are reporting it exactly as if a new leader had been elected to the Labour party or something. They've had various commentators pretending they know the first thing about the organisation and the person, but really just talking st. I say worrying because they've lent a certain amount of credibility to a few men sat in a cave somewhere getting angry.
