How can a grown man, who wears a dress for most of his working week and believes he has an invisible being for his best friend, be taken seriously?

He needs to STFU and PROVE his invisible sky pixie exists, or fk off.

He states that - "Dr Rowan Williams warned that the public is gripped by “fear” over the Government’s reforms to education, the NHS and the benefits system"

What he really means is that the UNIONS and that conjoined twin Labour are not happy. I don't know of one person who is 'gripped by fear' over this!

Burn him as a peddler of fear and misinformation - and for looking like Gandalf....

Glad i'm not the only one!

As an agnostic right winger i fully support the arch-bishops right to say this though. A strong opposition is always a good thing, and can cause people to stop and think occasionally as opposed to following a pre-ordained path. The C of E is also one of the few religious organisations i support- they do far far far more good than harm. The fact that be beleives in a purportedly magical jew is up to him.

He should stick to commenting on spiritual matters and keep his nose out of politics.

Time to formally remove the church from any part of state.

ahh I'm glad to see the trend here, I only caught a a smidge of this story as I left for work, but I remember thinking.... "Who asked him..."and why does he deserve a special soap box".
I'm not at all religious or political really, but the two are VERY different things...and shouldn't be mixed up... we'll end up like America or Afganhistan if we're not careful...

He claims that the millions of people who voted for the coalition parties did not give them a mandate to clear up Labour's mess.

How many millions of people voted for him?

Oh yes, some of his cross dressing mates did after they asked their imaginary friend what to do.

WTF.

Cheers,

Tony

Really? OK, "gripped by fear" might be stretching it, but there's a huge percentage of the population employed driectly in the public sector and a lot of others who are indirectly dependant on them - do you not know anyone affected?

Anyone who has someone elderly, or otherside dependant on social services and/or the NHS is concerned about the impact of cutbacks.

Of course, the typical PHer, who will obviously never need a safety net and couldn't give a toss about anybody that does, won't really care about what's going on.

I say again, I don't know anyone who is 'gripped by fear' by these 'pretend' cuts. I can see people worrying about rising fuel bills, caused in no small part to the climate change bill - why doesn't he speak out about that?

ETA - isn't the UK still borrowing more than it takes in taxes?

In a world where believing in a magic sky wizard is becoming increasingly irrelevant, this seems a sad attempt to regain some of that relevance.

My wife's job has gone.

OK, so this is PH and I'm billy big-bks so I'm going to say the timing was perfect for us as our daughter is just about to hatch a sprog and wifey only ever worked 18hrs so it was only pin-money, but to some / many of her ex-collegues the income was important.

There's a lot of people being quietly chopped but it doesn't seem to be being widely reported. Her department lost about 25% its staff (600 people) and that was on top of two lots of 10% cuts last year. It's at the point now where it can't function, but maybe that's the idea.

I can't say too much obviously, but it's not at the moment. They'll get through, but the scope of the work will have to be dramatically reduced. To be honest, the whole process they do seems a bit pointless to me but it's driven by law. Compensation claims against it are a growing issue.

I am sorry to read that, I really am - it can happen to any one of us, and it probably will if we continue to follow certain lunatic policies that will make it unprofitable to work from the UK.
Right now, there does seem to be jobs out there, my wife has had three since moving back to the UK last September - but it seems the younger generation don't want to do them, or their application forms are so bad that they are not even considered. I am sure, and I sincerely hpe that your wife finds other employment soon. (and please do not take my comments beforehand as a personal dig - they most certainly weren't)

There's honestly no need to feel sorry for us - I would have preferred her to stay at work as she can't go shopping, out to lunch etc when she was there. She couldn't wait to leave.

I am a bit pissed that the "gold plated" civil service pension turns out to be anything but, and the amount she's going to get gets smaller in every letter we get from them. Turned out it cost much less to get rid of people than they thought, so they upped the number they let go. It's so fantastic being a civil servant that nearly 50% of the staff, twice as many as they wanted, applied to leave.
