Explosion at Welsh Oil Refinery
Discussion
I'm originally from the Dock, mum's still in Pennar and a lot of my old schoolmates work there. As you would expect, I made quite a few phonecalls last night and they're thankfully all ok. Still don't know fully what happened yet, but the tank that went up was being cleaned / decommisioned apparently. Mum heard [& felt] the bang from her back garden [you can see the refinery from her house].
RIP to the guys that died and thoughts go out to the families.

I work at the refinery and was in Pembroke Dock yesterday just after the explosion, as others have said thoughts go out to the families, I believe they've only had it confirmed to them their loved ones have died this morning, it must have been an awful night for them. The dead are reported to be 3 men from a contract company associated with the tank work, and one female firewatcher. There is one surviving injured person, currently in Morriston hospital, Swansea.RIP to the guys that died and thoughts go out to the families.
RIP to those who died.

Is it ok to moan about American oil companies?
Seriously, it's very sad.
The refinery generally has a good process safety record and I'm proud to say that they always do what they can to operate the units safely. The company does place a great emphasis on safety and you do feel that on the refinery itself. In this case it was not on a major part of a process unit but on a tank connected to an Amine Recovery Unit. There is confusion in lots of the news reports as the incident involved a bowser/ tanker which was connected to the tank at the time, the bowser caught fire but lots of the news report were calling it a petrol tanker collision, which is totally incorrect.Seriously, it's very sad.
