He really is a tit our Boris.
You cannot tax Diplomatic missions you arse (Boris), I am amazed he is getting the other Embassies to pay it, I imagine they are all going to tell him to do one now.
I like Bozzer, but I think his argument is a bit thin that the Congetion Charge is not a tax but a charge for services. You cannot tax Diplomatic missions you arse (Boris), I am amazed he is getting the other Embassies to pay it, I imagine they are all going to tell him to do one now.

As it says in the article, he's claiming that it's a 'charge for services' and not a tax. I agree though, maybe this is a case that they should show a little discretion withYou cannot tax Diplomatic missions you arse (Boris), I am amazed he is getting the other Embassies to pay it, I imagine they are all going to tell him to do one now.
To be fair to Bozza, this debate has been ongoing for years

Problem is the way it is set up it's a barrierless toll and not a tax.
If they rolled up to a toll booth on the M6T would the barrier lift if they didn't pay? No it wouldn't.
Personally I think it was stupid of Ken not to exempt foreign diplomats like they've done in Stockholm, although there to be fair it is called a tax. Mind you I can be smug as all my stuff is exempt.

- The exemption applies until July 2012 for vehicles that are mentioned in the highway code before 1 January 2009. Vehicles imported after that date are not exempted from the congestion charge.
Bit of a disappointment this; I'd have expected more of Boris. Ken was a different matter (didn't he publically refer to the CC as a 'tax', on TV, about three times?) but Boris should have known better.
At least he didn't lower himself to base insults, unlike Ken. Calling a foreign ambassador a "Chiselling little crook" is an amazingly unhelpful thing to do.
Oli.

Boris has no choice but to publicly ask for it. He is coming up for election soon and needs to say things to appease the morons.
This US non payment of the CC is one of Ken's favourite topics and if he had not spoken up then Ken would have used it openly against him.
BO and BJ know the score when it comes to having to say things you don't give a dman about so as dumb people don't start frothing.

I'm betting the exchange went like this:
"Ah, sorry old chap, but the peasants will complain if I don't get a dig in about the old congestion charge, so how about paying up?"
"No siree, we ain't payin' s
t"
"Entirely understandable my dear man, anything that annoys Ken Livingstone is fine by me. Carry on, and we'll just let the rags paint you as the bad guy in this."
