So the Olympic torch route has been announced. According to Lord Coe it will pass within an hour's journey of 95% of the population. Will you go and see it? Do you care?

I won't and I don't.

Don't really care but if it is nearby and i am free i might have a gander for the hell of it.

Bit like the Dome in 2000 was for me. If it's on a plate I'll take it but if not I really am not that bothered. (and no I didn't make it smile )

It did make me wonder when hearing this on the radio this morning what the consequences would be if you ran up to the torch bearer with a fire extinguisher and extinguished the flame evil

I won't and I don't.

Also by way of reminiscences, who else remembers the opening ceremony of the World Student Games in Sheffield 1991. Helen Sharman was picked to light the beacon, she was the first Briton to go into space in case the younger end have no clue who she is.

On live international television, watched by ooh maybe a dozen or so, she picked up the torch, started to run through the stadium, tripped, the burning embers dropped out of the torch, set fire to the carpet, and then she went on to light the beacon with a smashed empty unlit torch.

Comedy gold.

If only somebody had thought of doing that with the actual games, then, just maybe, more of us would give two hoots about it.

How are they proposing to carry this torch around? The interactive map states 24 hours between Swansea and Aberystwyth which is a journey of 70 miles over the Brecon Beacons! yikes

Went to have a look when it went through London in 2004. Loads of crowds, ooh look here it comes, ooh look it's gone, time to go home. Massively underwhelming.

And is it 'magic'?

I was the follow spot operator who illuminated the daft bint for the procedure, thought I'd never stop laughing.
