....but the French agree that these people shouldn't be launching from France. They've taken million of pounds from us to help them pay for (laughable as it turns out) people to man the beaches and stop the people leaving.

I can't see why they would object to our forces effectively helping them out and returning said individuals.

And they were quick to give our forces permission to enter their jurisdiction in 1944....
Bit of a difference between 1944 and 2024.

You really have that little knowledge of affairs? You do not understand the military entering the jurisdiction of another country without permission could be regarded as an act of war. At the very least assisting those no have no right to enter France is a criminal offence. If Nige did the the order the military to do that they would quite correctly refuse to comply.

Ok, so what would you suggest?
It's not our job to come up with solutions. We vote people in to make these decisions but they have to be credible and not some pie in the sky fantasy nonsense that'll never work.

But you can't, in essence, INVADE a neighbouring sovereign nation with armed troops to solve a migration problem. Wars have been started for less.

If you want to return them to France then you will need to work with the French to come up with a solution but just dumping them in french beaches will only get the french dumping them back on OUR beaches.

But I thought we already had a solution?

Haven’t we already given France millions of pounds to aid stopping them from leaving but they have done the square root of fk all?

As you know, nobody can guarantee anything. I think the issue nowadays is that many people would expect taxes to hold steady, or fall, under Conservatives - whereas there's virtually an automatic assumption that they'll increase under Labour.
Only time will tell.
.
Whereas anyone with a credible view of the economy would expect taxes overall to rise to match our peers in return for delivering equivalent levels of service.

How do you know they've done fk all? How many have they prevented from crossing? Do you know or just assuming?

Yes, we've given the french some money but the french coast is very long with hundreds of launching points. Do you think we've paid enough that they can all be monitored 24/7? At best they'll be a quick visit by the local gendarmes before they move onto the next one to inspect.

And even when they do come across them, then what?

How many migrants per boat? 50? 75?

How many coppers are there? A patrol car or two so about 2-4 coppers? What chance to do they have against very determined migrants, who up to this point have not commited any french crimes, from entering the water and before backup arrives they're already at sea. The police cannot enter the water due to H&S of both themselves and the migrants and now it becomes a job for French border force/Navy/coastguard/whatever who may or may not have any resources in the area.

The money sent is just a smokescreen and a convenient get out for the government to blame the french for their own ineptitude.

Ah, so it’s the governments fault?

Christ.

So we should have a crack team over there to smash the gangs?

If that’s the case kier has that one already planned apparently.

He’s a clever boy, plays the media and keeps himself in the spotlight. Another none story (in the grand scheme of things) that has dominated the news agenda for 24hours, no wonder the Tories are terrified of him. Such a shame he decided to stop grifting for Trump and return to his U.K. business enterprise.

Why haven't the police arrested the guy? If that isn't hate speech, what is? The truth would certainly out then.

Thar says it all. The party in power are terrified of a hypocritical populist grifter. That's how low their party has sunk.
