OK, being told by people who live their there that Canada is taking large amounts of asylum seekers and a lot of people are crossing illegally into Canada from the USA and not being dealt with while making it hard for people like your friend

But isn't duel nationality quite common, I am looking into it, although wondering if the cost of €700 is worth it.

EDit: If it is just because he answered his place of birth wrongly, surely that would be picked up at the airport?

Their belief in that and the (seemingly tactical) conflation of legal immigration vs illegal immigration vs asylum seeking is what makes it difficult for him and his wife.

Fortunately they're almost through it now, but it has taken literally years of navigating deliberately awkward and variable requirements and guidance.

Canada has some of the highest immigration figures in the World, about 500,000 a year.

You are correct to a point , it seems if you’re from a Commonwealth country with money skillls and a clean criminal record you have to jump through hoops, however certain other groups are positively encouraged by very lenient visa requirements. I came from the UK so know well how long it can take to get the ducks in a row , farcical compared to some .
