He set off with a flat phone, shorts, t shirt, some sort of shoes, cigarettes and a lighter. No hat, food, water. Any money unknown.
Not a recipe for success., self inflicted almost certainly, a tragedy for his family.
You forgot the watch ? Not a recipe for success., self inflicted almost certainly, a tragedy for his family.

If you happen to have an analogue wrist watch you can simply point the hour hand at the sun and bisect the angle between the hour hand and 12. This will be pointing due south so could be handy for navigation.
Handy if you also remember whether daylight saving applies, in which case you use 1 instead of 12. And obviously this is northern hemisphere only.I don’t know if Jay passed the relevant badges in Scouts…

Well he has been in trouble with the police previously, so maybe he was facing newer charges or court sentences? This from 2021..
In 2021, Jay, along with seven other youths, ambushed and chased fellow Tom Hilton in Rishton, Lancashire, attacking him with a machete, golf clubs, and an axe. Tom, who likened his attackers to 'a pack of gorillas', was left with a split skull following the assault, as well as injuries to his shoulders and legs, The Mirror reports.
The gang of eight gang members was seen laughing and joking throughout the trial at Preston Crown Court. This lead to Judge Philip Parry calling out their 'disrespect'.
Judge Parry stated: "You should all eight be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves but I am not at all convinced you are. Many of you have found these proceedings amusing throughout the trial and yesterday and today, showing disrespect to the court.
"I hope for the sake of all your families, the public and the people who have offered you jobs and apprenticeships and the sort that you all grow up."
Jay was handed an 18-month community order for his part in the incident, which included 25 days worth of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid work
Tenerife is a smallish island, if you are lost you look for the big mountain in the middle turn your back to it and walk away you will always find the road that goes around the island and all the settlements that are along it.
Unless you have been murdered in a drug deal gone wrong, or stupid.
Maybe the vampire he visited for the drug deal has eaten him - https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1918683/jay-s...
" The only comment I have to make is that Jay came to the house alive, and he left the house alive." Oh I believe it, no way anything suspicious going on there...
