Well, the plot thickens.
Allegedly....
"Police are understood to be speaking to witnesses about an alleged Rolex theft at a beach club hours before the teenager’s disappearance."
https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/scared-jay-slater-fled-...
According to friends of Mr Slater, he had stolen the £12k watch and was attempting to sell it.
I suppose he may have a met a highly motivated victim, or potential buyer, and discussions ended badly.
The Rolex theft was mentioned right from the start but seems odd that it's now only getting reported in the mainstream media.Allegedly....

Maybe there is a lot going on in the background but the whole investigation seems to be a complete shambles with various suspects / persons of interest allowed to fly back to the UK

Was it Mallory and Irvine that got lost and came out of the bottom of a glacier about 80 years later, or something similar?
Edit
Not all right, but not all wrong, either.

Cessna and bodies appear out of a swiss glacier acouple of years ago. Edit

Mallory and Irvine are still on the NE Ridge, though there has been some talk that Irvine's body had been removed, but by whom??
This one's a good one. The theory being that he was killed by a piste basher and they rolled him into a crevasse only for him to appear at the bottom years later.
That particular glacier will probably be gone in the next decade or 2 so it'll be interesting to see if anything else appears.

As for Jay Slater walking home… don’t underestimate how stupid young lads can be after a few pints. I’m sure young lads don’t consider geography or climate after several pints.
When I was a young, stupid and tight-fisted Yorkshire lad. I often thought I would rather walk home after a few beers rather than pay for a taxi and save myself a few quid. It only took 15 minutes in the car, how bad could it be?….
…. 1 or 2 hours later I’d still be walking back and sobering up to maybe that few £ would have been worth it.

Annoyingly when I got there you couldn't actually walk in so I had to get a taxi anyway.
Yeah, the Rolex thing has been on TikTok for over a week. Interesting all his mates say he would not lie about stealing it and he himself posted on social media he'd stolen it.
FWIW, having lived over there for a number of years when I was young-if you're involved in some shady s
t, you go to the mountains to hide or make something disappear.

I feel a bit dirty speculating but it sounds more like he thought he was going to get done in for robbing someones watch so tried to do a runner (from the airbnb where he was staying) and took the "scenic" route to stay off the main road as the person he took the watch off was coming to get it back.
He could have wandered miles from where his last phone location was and has probably succumbed in the wilderness.
