We need the best candidates, not the most local ones, very few of the historical greats of any party have represented an area they had particularly great connections to previously

e.g Churchill lived in Kent but represented constituencies in Manchester, Dundee and Woodford in Essex.

That all sounds very plausible but what exactly is it that makes you look at the calibre of the current MPs and think that you want to further limit the available talent pool? It's entirely possible to put the work in to go out and learn about a community wherever you come from, and represent them well. Plus, just because you live there does not mean you don't need to do that work but I imagine it makes plenty of them think they don't need to.
Good points.

I guess flipped on its head, the current situation is used specifically to give muppets a shoe in just because "the party" wants them in government. And given the degrees of muppetry, I'm not sure the current system is a shining endorsement for having a wider pool to choose from smile

The work is a given necessity. But equally shied away from in both situations. More excuses to do so when you don't live in the area.

The whole system is up the creek, so needs a proper shake out.
