Rishi Sunak - Prime Minister
Discussion
Rishi is the Conservatives last, last resort, there are literally no other options.
There is absolutely nobody left to have a turn at being PM so they won't be able to get rid of him.
Are people forgetting that the current mess is his fault due to the amount of Covid party money he printed, eat out to help out, furlough, bounce back loans etc.

I don't really think we know anything about him in terms of his politics.
Is he in power for the sake of it, or does he actually have some new ideas?
I would say that the pandemic largesse does not suggest he is anything other than a technocratic, continuity, figure.
With that said, having Johnson as your boss likely made planning impossible.
Didn't agree with the corporation tax rise, but can understand why he did it.
Is he going to be honest about the problems of the champagne lifestyle on lemonade money.
Or are we going to have him and Starmer going at it hammer and tongs, when in fact their actual differences are 1-2% of GDP.
Without growth, taxes need to rise just to stand still. Except it's the dragon eating it's tail.
On balance, he deserves a chance. He needs some highly targeted measures to address the productivity issues that blight the economy.

Is he the best person for the job? He went out for the cameras Saturday in a shirt and jumper, then to show him kicking back later he was just in a shirt with the sleeves rolled up, bit cringe and do we really want to see someone leading the country so out of touch?
I don't really want a bloke that thinks taking his jumper off is getting down to the common man, this guy is about as far removed from you or I as anyone can be.
Lets get Mordaunt in.
I think the key word there is "went out for the cameras". I usually am in a T-shirt for my casual dress but would be wearing a shirt and jumper if going to a family do. I think some are just looking for an excuse to dislike him and if he had dressed scruffily we would have had other people complaining about that. I don't really want a bloke that thinks taking his jumper off is getting down to the common man, this guy is about as far removed from you or I as anyone can be.

He knows how to make money, isn't that someone who you want working for you?
I’d know how to make money if my family were billionaires. He’s just a totally out of touch with reality geek, with very little real life or in fact political experience.
I guess we will find out soon the extent of his (family, not him of course) tax ‘arrangements’ in more detail too, whilst ramping up tax for everyone else to try to claw back all the money he gave away to fraudsters he can’t be ars*d to get back. Plus, making buisness taxes so high here companies will ship out as many jobs as possible overseas. Never mind. It’s got WEF puppet written all over it.
I’m not a bojo supporter by the way. But I can’t abide Sunak.

Really? He's not the guy because he was wearing a shirt and jumper?I don't really want a bloke that thinks taking his jumper off is getting down to the common man, this guy is about as far removed from you or I as anyone can be.

This is a leadership campaign for Prime Minister, not The Great British Sewing Bee.
They're all out of touch with the common man. Starmer, Sunak, Mordaunt, the lot. That's why they all have a picture taken at some point, holding a pint of beer in a pub - makes them look 'in touch'
But this is about who would do the best job of stabilizing the ship. Like him or not, that has to be Sunak at present.

I'd rather have calm, competent and sensible, I don't care how much he is worth,
Neither do I, as long as he and his wife are paying their fair share of UK tax, without indulging in legal but unsavoury tax avoidance schemes. I expect them to max out their pensions and ISAs to minimise their tax, like normal people, but I don't expect one of them to have non dom status to avoid paying the correct tax on £11m of share dividend payments whilst telling the rest of us how we have to make sacrifices. But perhaps I'm too picky.

Sounds like you're jealous, not picky, IMO. If your wife was foreign, as his wife is, then I'd be surprised if you didn't do what she did. She's done absolutely nothing illegal - as you have said - and therefore in my view, nothing wrong. Don't let the politics of envy poison your view.
The moment you invoke jealousy to counter an argument you have lost. You have no idea what someone else would do, and many people do not use schemes like this.Non domicile status is meant for people who are only living in the UK on a temporary basis and retain links to another country, where they intend to return after a few years. Given his job either it’s clear she had no such intention, or he had no interest in remaining in the UK, so should rightly be questioned on his appropriateness for high office. Either she was engaged in aggressive tax evasion or he should not have been in office. It’s nothing to do with being jealous and everything to do with expecting people in public life to have a higher standard than “it’s not illegal”

Not surprising considering by his own admission he doesn't know any working class people.Although he does drive a Kia Rio apparently....
