I spend a fair bit of time down there too. The A75 and other Transport Scotland maintained roads are in decent condition, but the B roads maintained by D&G council are in a terrible state. Potholes seem to survive for years on some of them and as you say, they seem to repeatedly dump chippings on the same roads rather than properly resurfacing them. The 20mph disease also seems to be spreading as well.
You ever do the Galloway Forest road ? It's been like a motocross track the last few years, it does help keep the speed down for dodging the badgers, deer, hares and rabbits though. At this time of the year in the early hours it is a great drive and the run to Newton Stewart after it is also good as it opens up. The loose chips heading down the Isle really does put a bit of a downer on that section. I love driving in the region, you know when there are chevrons on bends easily taken at 3 figure speeds (i don't) that the locals don't hang about and can generally drive and outside of tourist time everyone appears to have a shift on including the HGV drivers.

There won't be many outrunning the Police down there either, i don't think i've seen Police tramping on as quick on technical A roads as often as i have down there, particularly on the A75.

The A77 was a pain for a while with the road works due to the landslip between Ballantrae and Glenapp, travelling late and early eased it somewhat. That road and the A75 show what can be achieved on roads even with heavy HGV usage, makes a mockery of so called maintenance on many of our other major routes.

I know D&G well too

Isnt there talk/ media reports of dualling the A75 via UKGov money instead of ScotGOV......as more and more HGV freight goes via the port (because of BREXIT not sure?)
if you get on that road at the wrong time you can be behind a ton of HGVs all the way until around Castle Douglas where you get some dual carriageway.....and thats when they decide to go 2 abreast ;-)

Plus it’s usually a safe bet that at least one of the camera vans will be parked up on the A75, with at least one of the others on the M74.

It's definitely a timing thing. Between 11pm and 3am it's usually all good and i love sitting behind the quick Irish HGV's for a bit on the twisties, McBurnies seem to be the ones most on it the last few years.

I've heard rumours of that happening with the A75 for years and i have heard there are enough locals with the right connections it won't be happening any time soon, keep it busy and awkward in Holiday season, don't want it turning into another Skye. Best place for all the grockles is the North West wink

It's not too late to do everyone a favour and scrap them both.

The Turkey ferry is going to be here and in service before the Glex Shambox, the MV Loch Indaal is due for delivery in February 2025, hundreds of millions cheaper and probalbly built to a higher standard.

Go SNP...your doing a blinding job..!!!

At the current rate, Claymore & Lochmor will be ready before stbox & Rusty. Indaal is the second Cemre boat BTW.

Another letter delivered from Labour today.

They are definitely ramping up their efforts now.

Not sacked, "removed".

ie, his secondment to Ferguson's will end and he'll go back to CMAL.

And as the article points out, he worked at (the old incarnation of) Ferguson's for 17 years before moving to CMAL.

Given the st state of the vessels it doesn't reflect very well on him, regardless of previous experience.

Were they exhorting her to seize the means of production?

Absolutely, I was meaning more that his "removal" hasn't lost him his seat on the gravy boat. smile

Sadly,it was a bit of a poisoned chalice of a role he was given, bridging the CMAL/Ferguson's divide; he was one of the few ones driving the Ferguson's workforce as an outside influence. Things will probably slacken off now.....

Why rush to finish a job when the unemployment office awaits?

A while back I was speaking to some of the lads from BAE who were on the Type 45 program, they said they build the ship to the agreed spec, any changes were carried out after...ker-ching for BAE who charged them extra for additional work, that's fair enough.

But the SNP / CALMAC / Fergusons scandal takes this to a whole new level, the contract being just a cash cow one for all to plunder.
