If you live in England you can now check how many XL Bullys are registered in your area. By post code.

"The data shows that the worst place in the country for XL Bully ownership is in Croydon, where there are 219 XL Bullys in the CR0 postcode region. The second worst hotspot is the S5 postcode area just north of Sheffield, where there are 189 of these dogs, followed closely by an area of Warrington with 182 Bullys. "

Actually quite surprised that there are over 100 in my area. I only see the 2 out and about.
Though I think only using the first part of the postcode May skew results a bit. Expect about 95 of them will be in a very concentrated area of the postcode that I don’t tend to venture into.

I think the bit in bold is the most telling and probably explains a lot.

Apparently 14 in our town - again I don't think I've ever seen one and I tend to do a fair amount of walking around the place (small town ~9k pop) so cover most areas. Reinforces my opinion that the owners are cretins who get an inappropriate dog to start with, and make it even less appropriate by not properly looking after it or exercising/engaging with it.

Interesting but no big surprise - my area (expensive place to live with an elderly population shows none) surrounded by well known 'rougher' areas full of them!

Plenty of Tysons though.

Similar story with us over in Norfolk - places along the coast and in North Norfolk (you know, places with loads of dog friendly pubs, open spaces for them to run around, etc.) there are none but concentrations of the less nice parts like Yarmouth and Thetford.

0-9 in our area, although we would be classed as 'remote'.

19 in "my" area, but I'm a long way from Llanelli town centre/Station Road where I suspect most of them will be...

^^^^^ This story has just come up on Sky News. 7 month old baby girl in Coventry. Hasn't said what make of dog yet.

But why do people think its safe to leave a baby with a dog, irrespective of the breed? It may have been a perfect family pet but jealousy, attention, curiosity etc can trigger an attack.

Probably the same mentality where people think their dog is their baby/child. Wouldn't hurt a fly etc, till they do.

I haven't got the photo to hand but our old lab used to lay next to the cot when our dgtr was born. Never left them alone though

Belgian Malinois - fantastic dogs, very intelligent, high prey drive but not a suitable family pet in my opinion. Used to work with one alongside a Dutch Shepherd.

What a bloody shame.

Surprised there are so few Malinois issues as if not handled correctly they are a bit of a liability. I think the only thing saving them from being the dog of choice for most scrotes at the moment is that they are bloody hard work

I'm seeing more and more of them about.

I know of a 'dog trainer' who is of questionable status i'll say. He has malinois and by his own admission for someone like me who's got kids and has visitors coming and going don't get one.

He described them as like a rowdy geezer, basically up for it at any time.

He said his are good as gold with family but incredibly defensive with anyone else.

I've been around and even had a go on a bite sleeve with a couple he is training and my god these dogs are basically weapons.

The owner of said dogs has them because he has been robbed numerous times in his semi rural location (farmer/landlord).

What does make me chuckle is the people who want dogs as weapons do not have xl bullies. They all say the same thing. Soft as st and useless for 'protection'.

When I saw that map, I wasn't too surprised to see, that the nearest town is in the top 200 postcodes for bully ownership. However, I hadn,t actually seen any of the monsters - until yesterday, when I saw three of the brutes, unmistakeable, they are so large and they did seem to be owned by "the usual suspects". They didn't have muzzles on either.

In 2022 a pack of XL bullys attacked a 6 year old girl. She survived. They had attacked a man walking his Dalmatian which was also attacked, previously. The owner was arrested and charged with 6 counts of a dog out of control plus more charges for the earlier attack. He was living in a campervan on the street 2 doors from the girl's home and the dogs jumped out and went for her.

The owner, Bernard Valentine was sentenced to 49 months. This is he:

From the report it seems the police could probably have prevented the girl's attack if they had done something about the previous one.

I was walking my dog locally in a street I don't usually use. An XL Bully in a garden ran to its fence barking aggressively at my dogs on the far side of the road. Not muzzled. The fence was only 3 feet high. I will be avoiding that street. I think as it was in a garden and fenced it was probably legal.

The owner in the garden half heartedly told it to be quiet. She was a fairly small thing woman. No chance of controlling it if it decides to hop the fence.
