Got to feel for Penny Moudant, there's no way she's ever going to be PM .........until December at the earliest.

His first address was absolutely superb, an absolute masterclass in reading off a teleprompter in a robotic manner
Hopefully his 2nd address after meeting the King will be an improvement...... Saving himself for that..!
Wouldn't it be great if the door opened and Charlie's says something like, 'Oh goodness, another one?'
rofl

Hopefully it all settles down now, I couldn't have seen Truss coping on the world stage, she was too socially awkward. We will see how PMQs goes on Wednesday.

At the last election we voted for a manifesto presented by a leader who is no longer in power due to being a disgrace. We have since had a new leader who promised x to her party and failed so is out now we have a leader who has support of some mps not all based on a policy his party rejected. Its hard to argue he has public support or a mandate but he is legally elected.

Course legally elected as per the last 2 does not mean he will last. With his high tax agenda my guess is when pain bites in new year he won't last
I suspect I dislike him has much as you do, and for similar reasons.

But on the above, we elect a party in our system, not a PM.

The bigger problem I think we have, is parties ditching their manifesto when in power without any recourse back to the electorate. We have to get better at that, and have better "rules" around it.

Unless Sunak was saving himself for the last three years, I can imagine a continuation of his ideas void, but this time with wider influence. He'll be less of a disaster than Truss - who could be worse? Famous last words maybe... - but he will save nothing.

Sherelle Jacobs correctly summarising that this is the last roll of the dice. "Like Italy but without the good weather".

Redwood already (correctly) drawing a line in the sand about tax levels. Good luck with that pal.

Loving the Boris failure. Having him progress would have been absurd.

Glad Rishi is in, whatever the politics, it is a very significant moment for a community who - let's be honest - contribute a huge amount to this country.

The fact he is about to be appointed makes a very large, and very clear, positive statement about our society which the wider world will notice.

Also, the fact the gammons are discovering previously unexplored depths of the colour red is an added bonus.

Rishi Sunak is an ideas void? Hells teeth murph, his void of ideas so far has increased the tax burden on some/a lot of us by 10%. Anymore lack of ideas and the entire middle class of the country will be bankrupt!!

The problem with Rishi is exactly the same as it was in the summer. It’s exactly the same as it was when Hunt started to implement the Rishi plan a cpl of weeks ago. It’s exactly why the TP membership rejected him.

Rishi Sunak is simply the most socialist chancellor in Tory history and in over half a century of British politics in general. Strangely enough that doesn’t impress many ppl.

If he had won a GE then i'd agree, but he didn't. He couldn't even get the support from his own party members.

I think he's an awful choice

At school he was videoed saying he knows no working class folk. Recently as a few months back he's saying he's going to take money from deprived inner cities and give it to Tunbridge Wells

He has got no idea what it feels like to be thoroughly skint and just cannot relate. He gives me very little to zero confidence he will help those who need help most

I predicted days ago that Mordaunt would pull out and ask for the Foreign Office, that is exactly what she's asking for apparently.

Party membership will vote for whoever promises them the bestest, biggest moon on a stick. Ideally while wearing a nice tie.

MP's vote for whoever would keep them off the dole longest. Pretty much the same whichever party.

Listening to Times Radio, where it has been suggested that Defence Secretary Ben Wallace may be removed due to him having issues with Rishi when he was chancellor, this allowing Penny Mordaunt to be brought in at defence....
If he does defenestrate Wallace it's more likely to be because of the 3% defence budget than a half-hearted lean toward Boris.

Perhaps it was due to the news outlet I watched it on, but he didn't appear to be looking at the camera?. that was a bit strange but again could just be because I saw the brief clip on youtube.

She withdrew a couple of minutes before nominations closed probably because she didn’t have the votes. If she’d done some kind of deal she would have withdrawn a lot sooner.

At least he won’t need to beg donors to help him pay his bills.

And?

Are millionaires and billionaires not entitled to political representation any more?

Richi is at least honest in his open contempt for anyone on less than seven figs. He is the Full Tory, and good luck to him.

He just needs to mug off enough low earners to keep him in power.

For everyone else, maybe you need to think hard about whether The Conservative Party really represents you.
