I can't understand why the first I hear about it is via a TV diagnosis from 5,000 miles distance - meaning how could this not be diagnosed, or speculated about stateside? And if it had been - as it surely must have been, given how obvious were are told it is - how can his wife let, indeed encourage him to go forward as she is continuing to do?
It's been covered in numerous editorials including the New Yorker -

Yes, that's yesterday, but my point is these symptoms will not have only just manifested themselves and been noticed, surely, given the level of scrutiny and medical care that the President gets. He must have had a diagnosis, and assuming so, why is he sleepwalking on as a candidate?

Spot diagnoses are rarely things that I get involved in but sometimes they are just so obvious.

I have also made them in real life.

He is not my Patient but I would be confident that JB has Parkinson's just by looking at him "on the telly"

As a junior doctor I worked for a neurologist at the John Radcliffe and he would spot them as they walked into the waiting room.

It is obvious. It really is.

Excellent. Can we have your spot diagnosis on Trump please. Feel free to use his shark vs electric boat rants for any research

No worries, but just google it, unless he has had a lot of botox , he has an almost diagnostic "mask like" face, it's due to a lack of muscle response in his face to his brain, the condition is in my mind a more benign version of MND

It is also affecting his ability to speak, he sounds like Muhammed Ali and he is now moving like him.

The condition affects everything.
He sounds nothing like Ali, who was far more affected physically and didn't have high and low points of ability the way Biden does.

It's like they fill Biden with speed, that doesn't last long enough.

Does make you wonder how hidden away he's been. They did a weeks training apparently as well as already having the questions pre provided.

Since we are ignoring The Goldwater Rule today (and this is coming from me, and not Dr Guitar) trump is a textbook malignant narcissist and sociopath. And possibly a raft of more obscure conditions detailed in the DSM.

Back to the subject of this thread, it's amazing how different Biden was a couple of hours after the debate. Completely normal. It's weird.

I am surprised you can come to all those conclusions from looking at him on the telly, is it that obvious to anyone with a medical background, such as yourself?
yep
Billy Connolly was diagnosed with Parkinsons after a fan who was a doctor saw him walking and warned him. Until then he had no idea.

" He said the doctor came up to him in LA’s Sportsmen’s Lodge Hotel and told him: “I’ve been watching you walking. You have a strange gait. “You’re showing distinct signs of early onset Parkinson’s disease. See your doctor.”

Billy admitted the encounter with the doctor, a fan from Tasmania, was “the strangest thing”.

But he got himself checked and tests confirmed the diagnosis."

It would be strange in Biden who must have top medical care had not been diagnosed if he had Parkinsons. If he has Parkinsons it is surely verging on cruelty to let him run for president. Who knows how it would progress in the next 4 years.

I thought CNN were pretty fair with both candidates, I doubt they shared the questions beforehand. Quite surprising really given their track record.

Erin Burnett at CNN.

I appreciate you can determine "knew" in different ways, ie his advisor would have known the likely questions.

That does not confirm he knew the questions in advance.

The most disturbing thing to me is the footage of Jill Biden at the after event rally congratulating her husband and talking to him like he was a toddler while he just stood there

It struck me as almost elder abuse and leaves me with the thought that it’s about her and not his best interests

Her desire to be the First Lady overriding what is in her husbands best interests

It's a car forum. No one cares about ethical guidance for psychologists and whether it applies to a doctor giving an opinion on Biden's health.

Secondly, I don't think many people disagree with what Trump likely is.

There's the Trump thread for that in any event. The issue is people still trying to make excuses for Biden.

Even Biden has come out and said he doesn't debate like he used to (within the context of he knows he's not a young man). Great, one of the most important jobs in the world by undertaken by someone essentially admitting they're past their best.

Now if we had mid-40s 1980s Biden then he'd be a force: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_v00iGJCLY&t=...

He has his moments even now where he's good. But the minimum expectation should be he's like that all the time. He's the President.

I wonder if a pre-rehearsed speech is significantly less likely to cause issues than something dynamic like a debate.

Biden given one week to improve, or go. The linked video at the bottom makes sense, Biden used to be "the only guy to beat Trump" and now "He's the only guy Trump can beat" - https://x.com/MarioNawfal/status/18070227351443950...
