The whole gambling stories are so unnecessary. What an illustration of their poor decision making skills.
They are.
The press should not be reporting on them. Everyone likes a flutter from time to time. I myself have been known to pop the odd bet on.
Your reference to poor decision mqking skills is also accurate. The editors of these news outlets should hang their heads in shame.
It's high time that the press in the UK took a much more enthusiastic view of the conservative party and Rish himself.

Why should the tax payer be paying for their PR/websites?
I don't really care - in this case it seems to be a bit of a group buy, and of all the things they've wasted money on this seems like they finally got value for money and something out of it. I'm actually not sure why they wouldn't be able to expense stuff like this.

Now betting on the election date however with insider knowledge..... what scum.

No real issue here - having some standard branding is perfectly fine and Labour probably have something similar because several of their MPs websites also share a layout

If Sunak is incredibly angry but won't suspend anyone, then what is he incredibly angry about?

What can he do. His own wife effectively did the same thing, albeit in a more subtle way with koru kids.

All they have to do I’d give the money to charity if they get caught.

Is it too late to suspend those candidates involved? If he does it now it will look like he has been pushed into the decision, making him look weak and not in control of the party.

However, he has said that he will expell those found to be guilty, with so few projected MPs he can hardly afford to lose any. If it's widespread then the tories will struggle to be the opposition.

He could take a moral stance? Did he not stand outside No.10 & promise accountability, transparency & professionalism?

As a thought experiment, how do you think would people react if a party leader who knows he's finished two weeks out from the ballot announced he's sacking all the people admitting to betting on the GE date?

Would they credit him for taking a stand or laugh at him for cutting his nose off? Why is it so often the case that in one of the few spheres of life where morality is an actual factor, we give people a pass time & time again if they happen to chime with our own beliefs? What does that say about us?

What we're rhe odds?

I can't imagine they won a life changing amount of money. Which makes it even more baffling.

For some they will be happy to make a few hundred quid with no hard work involved.

I think most of us would find it difficult to turn it down.

Heard something about 4-1 on the radio this morning - bets of a hundred quid or so.

As the guy explained when you think about it the election had to be this year so the odds on the month wouldn't be that high and even if you got down to the election date there are only 52 Thursdays in a year excluding the ones we've already had.

So taken at face value disgrace and scandal all over £500 or so.

Unless you had multiple accounts, of course, as appears to be the case with at least one of them.

I suppose that if the Sunday Times is correct and there are “several dozen” people involved, and quite a few are candidates, it looks tricky to suspend them now. The scandal isn’t going away though.

It's one of the oddest scandals so far, but no less serious for that. How did such people think they could avoid scrutiny when bookies are wideawake to dodgy bets (s42 Gambling Act) and have a duty regarding Politically Exposed Persons. Those involved are foolish beyond expectation even for this gov't.

Exactly, The reality is highly likely they're up to their necks in it & so can't start waving the stick about. The whole thing is a gant mess of their own doing.

Cromwell had it about right.

and most of the bets seem to be in the up to £100 range so maximum winnings of around £500.

Just further highlights the amateurishtic nature of the Tory party and their lack of seriousness. Overgrown schoolboys playing at governing.

I listened to Tobias Elwood calling for them all to be suspended, he’s right. Problem is that the story is twelve days old now and Sunak’s been sitting on his hands, effectively endorsing this behaviour. A bunch of chancers and spivs running the country.

That doesn’t start until next week.
