I think you're in denial. Your hatred of Trump seems so visceral that you cannot bear to admit that the debate was a disaster for Biden. That's all people are saying. No-one is denying Trump's lies that I can see. It has nothing to do with any of his many other failings.

The current comments are focused on the debate and even traditionally pro Democrat outlets are acknowledging how badly that went. The Dems are now between a rock and a hard place with very little time to put things right.
There's time. There are candidates that beat Trump all day long even from a standing start (Newsom's long been my pick). Biden's the issue, he mustn't cling on.
I wouldn't disagree but will they get on and do it? I don't think it's that simple from a Dem politics perspective.
Jill Biden. She needs to get her guy to stand down now. The rest can be done.
I do think that's simplistic. It will be rats in a sack fighting for the job. The Democrats are hardly a totally unified party and have factions like most others.

Sure it's simplistic, but the big issue is Step 1. Once Biden steps back, a fast-track process can be developed. Convention is coming, starting on 19th August for the Coronation of the new candidate. This is politics, stuff can happen if there's a need or a will!

Let's way and see then. One of the characteristics of old people can be extreme obstinacy. Step 1 will be Joe admitting he needs to go. That may be the hardest step.

You do realise that both candidates are old.

At the moment the choice seems to be about electing a doddery old geeza who cares about Americans and has a great track record, versus a slightly less doddery old geeza who's a felon, bankrupt, sex offender etc who only cares about himself and doesn't have a great track record.

It should be a no-brainer...

Everyone realises that.

Last night, one looked really old, that's the problem.

Perhaps Starmer and Sunak looks a great choice.

All this denial about Biden's fitness to serve I think was properly exposed. Can he step down? Can someone else take the nomination?

Trump? Well that is a whole different matter.
If Biden was replaced, would his campaign funding go to a new nominee?
I don't know, US politics is complex enough. Biden isn't the nominee yet though, but how would a new face make an impact in 4 months? Although that may help for the anyone but Trump vote.

Really not sure about this claim of Biden having a great track record over his career.

No that's a revelation to me. I thought at least one was a youngster.

Surely to goodness there is someone better than Biden in a country the size of the US?

I posted a few weeks back I couldn't wait for this debate, and last night was the reason why.

How so many have turned a blind eye on here to all of his gaffes, mumbling, forgetting what he is talking about, getting lost on stage etc etc etc and trying to pass it off as fake or altered footage has come home to roost.

I would be very surprised if he turned up for another debate.

The faithful dozen on here can post whatever they want about Trump being a felon, a liar, bad dancer, poor clothes etc, but last night's debate put all of that into the background and showed Biden as someone who is not fit to be a current President, never mind the next one.

Where are all of Bykers comedy pictures today that have been on here every day for weeks?

He must step down.
As a vehement anti Trumpist, I would have to agree.
I greatly admire how Biden has conducted himself in his career, but last night showed that he is a shadow of the man that was elected 4 years ago.

I was a bit shocked, at times, of how much he struggled.

I’d still pick him as president over Trump, but then I’d pick the st off my shoe before Trump.

Agreed. It was sad to watch. And it felt like a trap. Now even the most obstinate supporter of Biden (himsef in a rare moment of cognitive capability?) has to accept the truth. Trump made mince meat of him. And there's a colossal amount of staff to take Trump on with.

Whatever has happened to the US? Also, this exposes the blatant bias of traditional media, who defended the indefensible for years. What else are they lying on?

One of Biden's former campaign staff has noted that there appeared to be a 30 year age gap between the two opponents last night.
That's really saying something!

Nothing like what is coming after November now it seems. It would be quite amusing to watch if it didn't impact on the whole of the rest of the World so severely. Have I woken up to some insane Truman Show type reality? I hope so.

Interesting to see Newsom on the news as a surrogate speaking for Biden.

Super articulate, super nuanced understanding of policy on a granular level (with numbers and facts reeled off from memory) and let's face it women will vote for him in huge numbers based on looks and charisma.

The answer is in plain sight. Trump will lose in a huge way to Newsom.

If Dems f*ck this up it is a purely self inflicted wound.

The sad thing is that exposing the situation, reporting on it and discussing it allows solutions to be thought about sooner.

It's almost as if there's been a sea change in the media attitude after last night, like some kind of revelation.
The daft thing is that last night's 'debate' shows us nothing new about either candidate, nothing that hasn't been evident for months or years.

It's so stupid!

Yep, been shouting about him for months. He wins - easy. He helped prepare Biden, and is still being very overtly loyal, but he'd be a rat up a drainpipe given an opportunity, and bloody good job too.

Newsom is busy destroying California right now. He’s also facing a second recall vote in a very blue state. On the other hand, he’s another disastrous pretty boy Trudeau type, so he’ll get the airhead vote at least.

Newsom would be able to call out Trump's lies and inaccuracies during a debate, like a real time fact checker.
He'd have the energy to respond to Trump's attacks in a meaningful way. This is what is needed!

Trump would also have to think of new criticisms to aim at him and could no longer rely on well-worn attacks, which would take a lot of the energy out of Trump's argument.

He wouldn't get embroiled in stupid arguments with Trump about who was better at golf either!
