Something was bothering me, then it clicked; Trump is playing his invisible accordion as usual, but he must have been told to keep one hand on the podium by his handlers. It looks really weird now I've spotted it. hehe

I think it’s quite sad - it’s obvious Biden is not with it
He's not that, but he's definitely tripping over his words. TFG is spouting utter bullst, it really needs real time factchecking, but he's doing it fluently which may impress the easily impressed. The Family Fortunes claxon every time he told a whopper would drown out most of his speech.
Biden's lifelong speech impediment doesn't help him at all when talking off the cuff. That doesn't make him "not with it;" it makes him not an effective orator in this environment.

I'd rather neither candidate were here, so we're clear.

Agreed about the fact-checking; Trump shouldn't be allowed out without a fact-checking chaperone smile
You think Biden is an effective orator in this debate?

Yes - Biden is terrible
He's not sparkling for sure, TFG is doing his usual "greatest hits" which are mostly bks, although he seems very muted. Either drugged or his handlers have actually persuaded him to not act like the titanic bigot he is normally.
I think it’s quite sad - it’s obvious Biden is not with it
Are we watching the same debate? I see nothing that suggests "Biden is not with it." Do you have specific examples you think show otherwise? He's not a great orator in this environment, his speech impediment doesn't work to his advantage.
We are obviously not watching the same debate - a “speech impediment” yeh right
Trump is now accusing Biden of lying about his golf handicap - because Biden can't be allowed to be a good a Trump at golf - and then has the audacity to say "let's not behave like children."

Biden is stumbling over his words. Does that make him "not with it"? I will agree that Biden looks and sounds tired; Trump at this stage in his presidency also looked and sounded tired. I think Biden should retire. But I don't think somebody who stumbles over their words is inherently "not with it."

And now Trump is saying he'll only accept the outcome of a "good election."

No, I think he's a terrible orator. But I don't judge politicians on their oratorial skills, but on the quality of their work.

If this were a proper debate, the oratorial skills wouldn't be an issue - it would be a battle of ideas, which is what we all need to see, so voters can choose the best ideas. Instead, Trump has dragged these debates down to his level and Biden - ill-advisedly IMHO - is trying to play Trump at his own game. Biden is not up to that.

No, it's been quite poor, much less engaging than the State of The Union.

I don’t know how you can watch the debate and think Biden is “with it” - it’s obvious the lights are on but nobody is at home.

It’s a train wreck.

We’re seeing the worst of both of them.

Lots of talk on X and Threads about a ‘hot swap’ of Biden for someone else.

Biden’s performance was poor. Trump spouted a constant stream of bks.

No one will be changing their minds off the back of this.

The "Lie" rant is one giant tell, every bit of it applies to him rather than Biden.

There will be undecided voters watching this and now face the choice of choosing their favourite flavor of st sandwich.

It won’t be a choice of who they prefer. It’s choosing who they want less and then voting the other way (or staying at home).

If you think in this context, Biden may well do better with undecided voters.
Biden is old but at least he isn’t a liar etc..

Fortunately fluent off-the-cuff speechifying isn't a vital function of a president, otherwise I'd agree. I can't see swing voters being moved much by this, TFG delivered exactly what he delivers at his rallies, glib lies, and Biden was stuttery. No new data.

Excellent lying performance by TFG; he lied fluently throughout. He aced his cognitive tests again, he must be taking them twice a week so he can remember it and cheated at golf twice too.
