I did like trump claiming yesterday that he's now doing well with the blacks because he's just like them, been convicted with a mugshot - Nope - he really did say that

trump: "The mugshot is the best ev- it just beat Elvis Presley & Frank Sinatra by a lot. That’s the number 1 mugshot of all time. It's really an amazing thing. Since it happened, the support among the Black community & Hispanic community has skyrocketed”

As always with trump everything is a lie
Biden approval rating among African Americans, Jan, 2023: 60 percent
https://abcnews.go.com/538/biden-losing-support-pe...

trumps mugshot taken: Aug. 2023.

Biden approval rating among African Americans, May 2024: 62 percent
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/05/06...

Warnock: "I think I know a little something about Black voters. And I can tell you that Black voters are not gonna show up and vote for Donald Trump." - shows graphic that 60% of blacks in Georgia would vote for Biden, 9% for trump

Event space booking in Milwaukee is really quiet during the RNC convention week, with suggestings that it won't bring the economic impact promised
https://www.therecombobulationarea.news/p/special-...

Signs of trump stealing all the RNC money?

It did, unfortunately (here I go again,) mirror quite a lot of standard MAGA/GOP talking points

1) there were obviously some folk who got a little excited
2) the vast/overwhelming majority of the ‘hostages’ simply walked through wide open doors with no Police trying to stop them - how are they criminals and going to jail?
3) Trump did ask for peace and quiet, with peaceful protests
4) it does seem that Pelosi and Co didn’t do enough to avoid the issues and
5) there are way too many stories about ‘plants’ and ‘Feds’ amongst the crowd as agitators

Etc etc. when calmly argued and backed up with the old ‘are you sure? The other side are’ it can seem reasonable. He is far from MAGA mind and if allowed, would rather set fire to his head than vote for Trump!!

We don’t know each other and probably never will but I’m afraid it did….. I’ve just replied to someone else but he can’t vote but is far from MAGA, just playing Devil’s advocate.

And in case it does need to be said, Trump is an utter moron and I struggle to understand why anybody could vote for such an incredibly flawed character. He is a danger to US democracy and the whole world order.

I also think 99.9999999% of the MAGA arguments are utterly insane and argued from a basically flawed starting point.

(His initials are MJP and I could tell you exactly where we were sitting drinking alcohol free beers after a great day playing golf in Spain but that would probably be wasted….)

So basically taking onboard all the lies told by GOP members and trump in trying to whitewash trumps actions (and many of the GOP members).

We've seen here over the last 8 years plus, than when challenged with truths/facts they won't believe or just try to detract with another claim, or just don't even bother to address the corrections

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) this week headlined a "Black Americans for Trump" event in Atlanta, the one which trump called into claiming that blacks really like him now because he has a conviction and mugshot like them.

Seems it was poorly attended, only a few politicians and the mirror shot tells it all

I remember that old new Top Gear had lady wranglers to direct attractive women to the front of the crowd during studio sequences... Surely it would have been a smart idea to do that with the African Americans in attendance?

At least rent a crowd, if they're all tall you won't need to rent a big one.

Also I get it can be difficult to know how far down to tie a tie but that is a proper ball tickler.

That is kind of my point - they have what they believe are facts and it/they dont stand up to much scrutiny. When you WANT to believe something, and have formulated your own ideas/viewpoint, it becomes a seismic shift that is needed to change your mind. When you WANT to believe something, a mere suggestion may be all that is needed to reinforce your flawed views and 'prove' others wrong.

It is a cult and unfortunately, the majority of MAGA just change their arguments (or the detail) when proven wrong or that their claims are nonsense/impossible.

When and IF you want to believe Trumps BS, you become happy to take 'proof' at face value. No fact checking needed or required etc etc. The number of folk on this thread that have stated things like 'the Jan 6 committe destroyed and deleted all records of the committee hearings to hide the stuff exonerating trump' becomes a truism fro the MAGA faithful despite it taking 15 seconrds to completely destroy the lie with a quick Google search into official USA websites.

It is incredible and while most sane folk give his nonsense a wide berth, his faithful do seem to BELIEVE the BS - and therfore, their opinions become facts rather than just nonsenscal opinions - TO THEM!!!

Anyway, i will leave this point and resort to informative and amusing reading of Byker's excellent work summarisiing the various news feeds.

Tonight's debate is on 'record' if I cant stay up - it is going to be a car crash and go down in history IMO. I look forwrad to reading this thread tomorrow - even if some MAGA loons pop in to troll.

And I am not watching it with Marjorie Jaylor Preene smile

When they released almost everything although redacted. They offered the GOP to read the unredacted docs but wouldn't give them copies, because they wanted to protect witnesses.
Loudermilk was shouting the loudest and was told in no uncertain terms

“I cannot assist your attempts to keep the January 6th conspiracy theories alive with your subcommittee's misrepresentations and continued fishing expeditions, all in the service of your and donald trump's political interests,” Thompson said in a letter to Loudermilk about his false claims.

Everything that was released is all here

Need to remember as well that trumps secret service detail deleted all their texts, had their phones replaced and destroyed

He hasn't yet. But he will need excuses if he doesn't attend. I was musing.

Because he won't let any unfriendly media near him.

Also he'll just shout "FAKE NOOZ" at them.

Long gone are the days when a politician could stand up to a one on one grilling with a hardened journalist and come out on top without either of them calling the other names.
