I hope that European countries are preparing for a Trump administration.

That way we can continue to support Ukraine .
Trump will support them if they pay. So Europe will lend Ukraine money to buy from the USA, Donald makes lots of CEO friends richer.
When he takes the meeting with the Pentagon officials and the CEO's of the weapons giants, he will change his tune. When they spell it out that it benefits the military budget, weapons companies AND the workers for them, he will be lining up to take credit. He did this before.
Indeed, trump will do what makes him look better. He has no position on anything other than himself.

His model was often to threaten, threaten, threaten, and then blame someone else for doing it badly.

I don't think he will support them. I think it will immediately stop. He will do a deal with Putin. He has allready done it. Russia will get all the land they have indicated they want. Ukraine will get no help so forced to accept. This is going to happen.

Your opinion would be more convincing if it made any sense, or you could spell territory.

Ugh. That's a bit sad and petty.

OK how about this. Trump doesn't need to make sense, he's also a petty man and feels that Ukraine didn't bend the knee when he wanted them to stitch up Joe Biden's son so he'll be happy to see them screwed.

I have changed it to a word I find easier to see. I have dislexia. Have had since I was a child. At 60 years old I still just can't see many words as others do. Is my opinion more convincing to you now my spelling is correct?

I've not felt that folks have appreciated that ruzzia can only keep feeding the UKR special operation if they leave the back door wide open.

They will get to the point where they know that if anyone wants to walk into the motherland's kitchen, there will be nothing to prevent it. That's when it will get really dangerous for the rest of the world.

Trump hasn't won the election. He lost his last attempt and has done nothing to improve his image or reputation with floating voters since then. His election is very far from inevitable.

No. Even without a spelling mistake it doesn't make much sense.

The US is not the only party supporting Ukraine. With the latest aid package from the US, and what will be supplied up until the election, and what other countries will supply, I think Ukraine will manage. Russia is already degraded and looking for an off ramp.

And, as per my other post, Trump getting elected is far from a certainty. I'd put £10 on Biden to beat him again.

Yes the Russians said they were rallying arms and troops next to Finland. But we count the trucks and we can see the opposite. They have been taking equipment from the Nordic bases. Contrast this with the Northrup Grumman contract to build a factory pipe line in Ukraine for shell manufacturing of medium and 155mm shells funded by Ukraine.
We also know that although shell production is up to 150,000 they are lacking nitrocellulose, the ingredient inside the shell itself.
So there may be asking the North Koreans about this, however the quality of the North Korean artillery has not been great.
But beggars cannot be choosers.

One would expect that the PLA and NK using Russia as a battle lab as we can see that Russia has failed on many fronts with their own military technology and the Russian military complex just not being there. But China is the one they are looking to, China itself is 3 to 5 years away from any military action and even that is luke warm given their financial position in 2024. Maybe a poke and a probe at the Philippines, but the fallout of the broader economic hit that Russia has taken is not going to be a motivation even for the most ardent nationalist.

How can anyone claim to be the good guys when you're in bed with North Korea. Obviously I don't mean the leadership, but I mean from your average Vlads position.

Cos they're anti 'anglo saxon' and Western imperialist.

That's more than sufficient.

Some chilling analysis (written in the DT today):

“There is a growing chorus of influential voices in Russia who argue that tactical nuclear weapons use could force Ukraine and the West to capitulate. If Russia is making incremental gains at too high a cost, it could see a nuclear escalation as a lesser evil to a years-long war of attrition. The hawkish Council on Foreign and Defense policy chief Sergey Karaganov, who moderated the discussion with Putin at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, is the most prominent exponent of this chilling argument. Talk about a Hiroshima and Nagasaki style end to the Ukraine war is intensifying. “

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/06/18/russia...
I don't think that is likely at all.
You think the US will sit back and allow conquest by nuclear weapons? I'd be very surprised if russia hasn't been told exactly what the immediate consequences of the use of nuclear weapons will be.

My guess is that the US response would be to annihilate all russian forces on Ukrainian land. russia could not be allowed to gain or win.
I'd also guess that sanctions would be stepped up to near airtight levels.

Even russia aren't that dumb.
You need to read the article, it mentions all the nuclear rhetoric, the possible NATO counterstrikes, the West’s dismissal of such nuclear sabre rattling etc.
What the analyst is talking about is the direction of travel within Russian conversations. He is arguing that it doesn’t matter what the outside world (with the possible exception of China) thinks about tac nuke use, it only matters what direction the internal politics is going. Hence why I called it chilling.
It was reported a few months ago that the US had “via channels” communicated to Russia the implications of using nuclear weapons. I think the minimum response is that the unit responsible for firing them would be obliterated with conventional weapons.

There is also the paradox for Putin….if he gives the command will it get executed ? Even in Russia there are “checks and balances”…there’s a chance that the order doesn’t get executed which would then threaten Putin’s grip on power.
