Probably a coping mechanism. What happened to her was humiliating and very public and it's natural to try to convince herself that it wasn't her fault.
The grift in America is the only thing she has because she can't go on the speaking circuit or advisory jobs like every other ex-PM.

I don’t see how you can conclude anything but the Tory party members are not yet modern enough to vote for a brown man given they chose her over Sunak. Badenoch will have the same problem.
