Part two of Kwasi on Leading is up. He definitely went down in my estimation after mispronouncing scone. This part also covered his time as Chancellor, how he came to be with Truss, why he was sacked (gilts, not currency) and what he thinks of Truss chasing conspiracy theories.

Rory had a bit of a go because he thought Kwasi was too keen to follow the electorate and presentation focused approach over policy. I think this is a bit unfair because you need to actually get into power to do all the things Rory liked to do, something he seems to completely forget every time he talks about elections.

Kwarteng seemed extremely naive (at best) about Truss' personality and her suitability for office. Or he thought she was more likely to win or just backed the horse from his side of the party and hoped those flaws wouldn't come to fruition.
Also says he wouldn’t vote for the Cons if he was in his 20s. Hard to argue on that point.

Truss was campaigning in Swaffham today, with a mock-jolly, ingratiating smile across her stupid face. I so wanted to go and remind her that she is not actually good at anything.

Watched a Youtube video. Something odd went on before the minibudget. Truss claimed the minibudget was thoroughly modelled by the Treasury, and given the green light. This is very plausible. The odd thing is that it was well known (or should have been) that there was an elephant trap regarding the issuing of gilts, and until that was sorted the minibudget would have to wait. The BoE did know this, so what happened? Cockup or conspiracy?

There needs to be a picture of her in the dictionary next to the words Thick Skinned.

Remarkable that she carries on like nothing has happened.

As we have seen with many issues thr PM overrides things all the time. Maybe she was told to wait but went ahead anyway

Grandson on board so best to avoid embarrassment. Also two very large security blokes.

I can't be the only one to think you should have bribed junior to insult her in exchange for ice cream/junk food of choice. hehe

No insult required - just have grandson toddle up to Truss bearing a lettuce and ask her in the most charming way possible for her to sign it for him.

The security blokes are coppers, so would do the right thing and pull Truss off your grandson as she finally snaps and tries to throttle him.

Bonkers
She was the worst PM in history.
The shortest tenure, just a few weeks.
A complete & utter disaster.
But now needs security for the rest of her life.
Quite sad really, ruined her life (as well as Kwasi’s & mortgage holders)
A very destructive person.
Was obviously out of her depth.
The manager of my local coop shop had more gravitas.

This podcast did a 3 part analysis of Truss's month in power, it was follwed up with a 2 part interview with her.

The rest is money
Due to this thread I've finally sorted out a podcast player on my phone. "The rest is politics leader" interview with Kwarteng and the one with Rachel Reeves are superb. They remind me a bit of Brian Walden's interviews. The BBC has journalists with proper economic understanding, but they rarely get the opportunity to really hold people to account with follow-up questions. Stewart name checked "the rest is money" too, so that's next on my list. Genuine thanks to you and previous posters for spurring me to actually listen to this stuff.

Does anyone know who Rory and Kwasi were talking about when they said there was a fluent Arabic speaker and expert on the Middle East but who was posted to Japan? I can't remember who mentioned it but the other one just said "yeah, I know exactly who you are talking about"

I'd imagine it was a Kim Darroch moment, someone did or said something they shouldn't have and became inconvenient, that's the usual reason for sending a diplomat somewhere other than where their language specialism would suggest; made a joke about tearing the press apart in front of MBS etc.
