Elon Musk $41B offer for Twitter

That $3.3B is direct funding of NATO. 15.8813% of 3.3B is $524M. So if he was mistaken that the NATO budget was $1.3B, then that $524M would be ~1/3. Indirect funding of NATO is through defense budgets and making forces available. The US spend more on defense than all the rest of NATO combined, and a good chunk of NATO members still don't put 2% of GDP towards defense, which was agreed to almost 20 years ago in 2006.
If you tried to smash direct and indirect funding together, then US probably "funds" 45-50% of NATO. The US defense budget in 2024 is ~$850B, so that $524M direct funding number is practically a rounding error. That US defense budget does a lot more than just NATO though (defense of Korea and Japan, Freedom of Navigation on the world's oceans, counter-China, anti-terrorism stuff in Africa, etc, etc), so it would be tough to really put a number on that.

He’s full of st and a complete narcissistic lying wker, who being South African, rather than American, should take his wk ego and shut the fk up.
He’s a businessman, mostly, and since he’s got plenty of that to focus on, should leave the politics to, you know, politicians.
Complete fking wkpuppet

It's a great way to repay the country that allows you to become a citizen by then doing whatever you can to keep the threat of civil war alive.

So glad he's got the bots under control. These were the only replies to a post about someone blocking the wheelchair space on a bus...
This is quite interesting. There was a write-up somewhere that I can't find now, but the premise was that these bots were sometimes triggered to post when they read certain key-words in a post. By then posting various words such as 'nudes' or 'boobies' or something else rude they triggered the Algos that then essentially de-amplified the thread.Would be an effective method of low level censorship.

Was that your screenshot?I presume this was the original tweet? If so, I can't see any of the posts from your screenshot.

That one I can see, but only if you click "Show additional replies including those that may contain offensive content" from the original thread. I would imagine, because the originator replied to that one, maybe it doesn't get deleted, but just gets 'hidden' unless you look for it. https://x.com/EMMY1058857/status/17950693137091259...
But I'm not sure all this proves your original point - seems like they are now making more effort to either delete or hide bot content.

Pretty sure it does prove the original point. If loads of bot accounts can post, the problem exists.Your armchair analysis of one screenshot doesn't change that. If you actually use twitter, you know this is a huge problem.

The old adage - 'too big to fail' seems to be playing a part here.
As for th Musk is brilliant posts - wow.
His neurolink is reporting issues, Tesla were founded by others, Space X was on the verge of bankruptcy but NASA saw the opportunity it (rightly) presented and gave him a $900m grant.
He isn't the Messiah, he is too often wayward with the truth and willing to blatantly lie and obstificate to get his way/cloud judgement.
But yeah, he's golden.
Unfortunately EddieSteadyGo and skwdenyer believe he truly is golden and a super CEO who is 100% right on everything. Everything has a justification and there is nothing that can Musk can do wrong. As for th Musk is brilliant posts - wow.

Oh well, I give up. I’ll go somewhere else.
"Tesla was founded by others" - yes, absolutely, some other people had an idea to put laptop batteries in a sports car. It was a good idea. But they couldn't get it funded without Musk. And, being honest, I see no evidence those people would or could have built Tesla into the scale of business it is today.
Re SpaceX, finding ways to obtain the money you need is a major part of growing a business. Musk is very good at it. Nobody else was doing anything remotely like SpaceX wanted to do - and they still aren't. That sort of step-change comes along infrequently.
Musk's also not remotely as profligate with others' money as many other entrepreneurs. For instance, IIRC, Tesla has had $16bn in capital and has built a huge company. Rivian has had $10bn in capital and has built a niche business in need of more cash.
Musk's isn't a genius, in the sense that he's not trying to do things others have't thought about. But he's simply getting on with it where so many others didn't. As George Bernard Shaw wrote, the reasonable man attempts to change himself to suit the world whereas the unreasonable man attempts to change the world to suit himself; progress depends upon the unreasonable man.
Are there any self-made industrial billionaires who *aren't* somewhat unreasonable, and is that not why they are the engines of change that allows them to reach that point? You have to be prepared to ignore everyone telling you you're wrong in order to effect change quickly. It is for Governments to decide how to regulate businesses, surely, not for the likes of Musk to say "no, I won't bother reaching for the stars"?
Maybe he could ask trump why he hates EVs,, why he tells so man lies about them, about their range, cost etc. Why he tells people all the time not to buy them, and maybe he could ask trump why he says all of them are made in China and he will slap tariffs on them if he gets back in power?

MFD - Musk Derangement Syndrome?
May have already been mentioned but it is rather amusing...
Yeah, I find it utterly bizarre that it is always the same bunch of posters, chaps who boast about their liberal credentials their tolerance and their ability to be free-thinkers, but ironically are the same ones who truly hate whomever it is that various talking heads have told them to hate.MFD - Musk Derangement Syndrome?

From a psychological and a human nature perspective, I find such behaviour to be as equally disturbing as I do interesting.
It truly is hivemind behaviour, and for me it makes it easier to understand how a general populace can willingly commit some of the worlds worst atrocities, simply through peer pressure, not wanting to go against the grain of what they believe to be societal norms, cowardice or just an in-built unpleasant streak.
He was criticised for over paying for Twitter, and I believe current valuations put X at about $19bn. When do we think the value will rise to what he originally paid for it?
I'm guestimating 5yrs and he will have got the valuation back up.
If and when he does do we think peoples attitude towards his takeover will change?
