Hi all..have recently upgraded the tv to a 42" plasma.

Am currently using sky tv on a family package with a very old set top box ie non sky plus etc.
I would love to upgrade to sky plus, but obviously don't want to be charged through the nose.

As a long standing customer, what are my chances of getting a free upgrade..has anyone managed to upgrade with a threat to cancel..I was looking at adding sports so could use this as a bargaining tool.

Any tips?

I haven't upgraded for free by threatening to cancel but in the several years I have had Sky+ the box has developed a fault a few times.

Each time it has been out of warranty and the cost of repair is about £6- - £80 (can't remember the exact figure).

Anyway, I've always called Sky and spoken to the cancellations team and said that I'm off unless the box is repaired/replaced gratis - obviously, not as bluntly as this.

The box has always been duly replaced by Sky for free.

Anyway, call them up, say you are thinking of leaving to go to cable as their equivalent of Sky+ looks good and you should have a shiny new Sky+ box within the week.

I believe its free if you upgrade to Sky HD (you really should as its excellent). I say free - they give you a free HD box and installation, and you pay a tenner a month for HD.

Just done this, free upgrade, sky+ great, HD not so much.

Also you need to think about running a new feed if you're going to Sky+ or HD. I recently bought all the cable and connections for about £15, then got a Free HD box from Sky, with self installation and £100 worth of M&S vouchers.
