I have a theory based on nothing more than my own DVD collection. All of my favourite films have brilliant soundtracks.

Star Wars and 2001 obviously. But also Oldboy and Disney's Cars (it's got V8s so that counts). But I can't think of any epic films that I've seen that have dull or rubbish soundtracks. There Will Be Blood is actually unwatchable because its soundtrack is so ball achingly terrible. I'm not sure if Bronson is a good film on its own merit or if the soundtrack makes it more appealing to me.

But I digress, what epic, amazing, totally awe inspiring films have crap soundtracks? Because I can't think of any at the moment.

Not sure it was epic but as a 007 fan the long awaited Goldeneye was ruined for me by the techno beat rubbish that they passed off as a soundtrack. I think at that point they drafted in David Arnold who crafted future soundtracks very much in a John Barry style.

I was disappointed by the music in the original Mad Max. I know it was a budget film and IIRC Brian May wrote the music but it seemed pretty bad.

Yes but in there lies the paradox, the film was so awful it was good, whereas I'm not sure it's possible to do the same with music.
