Let's face it, nobody wants to see any of this. But it's important. I'm always a bit proud of Jackie Stewart for making such an impact on safety.

Another top BBC4 documentary.

Never realised before how much Seb Vettel looks like Rindt.

Cracking couple of hours of TV - Sad and haunting but at the same time very enjoyable.

I guess the only other thing might have been a further hour on the glamour/upside of things. While there was obviously a lot of tragedy, there was also a sense of fun & camaraderie which will always seem to be missing in the current world.

Just remember this the next time you hear someone moan about big tarmac runoffs.

fking hell. It's just beyond comprehension.

On a different note some intresting music used even a bit of nick drake.

If all tv was that good I would pay double the license fee.

Only caught the end of this. That footage of Purley & Williamson always makes me well up without fail. The version on YouTube is particularly difficult watching.

Totally agree, only caught the second half but that footage is something else, you can feel Purleys immense frustration and helplessness. Cant even imagine a fire on the track nowadays let alone that many tragic, probably preventable fatalities. Iv a massive amount of respect for Sir Jackie and his Autobiography is well worth buying.

This is the era when I first followed motor racing. I’m ashamed to admit there was a period when I believed in the mantra of the danger is the sport. It was when I took a photograph of Jackie Stewart’s car, broken down at Beckets, with a spanner taped across the steering wheel, that I began to realise the Neanderthal level of precautions. More importantly that if that was the level my heroes had to rely on, something was seriously wrong with the sport. The money in the sport was spent in such a fashion that exit from a car was down to duct tape and a spanner costing shillings. The drivers did not need to die for me to observe who was the best driver, it took time for me to work it out, which is my shame.

Dont mind admitting something in my eye. The Purley one is just...

Ive seen JYS talk about the safety crusade before, but that was the first time I think Ive seen him visibly angry about it, I think possibly the older he gets the angrier about it he gets.

The Nina Rindt footage was moving. Its obviously taken her a lot of years to accept things and I suspect it may well have taken Chapman's death to help that, but she certainly hasnt forgiven him.

Never seen Jackie Oliver get that close to having something in his eye either.

But Bandani. Hells teeth. For those who missed the beginning, just be grateful. I know there are some gruesome souls out there who need to see footage, but I never want to see that clip again.
