Ok, so Im not Ramsey's biggest fan but I'm all for the exposure of the awful shark fin trade. My pi
ss is boiling watching this. Various un-educated, ignorant people of this world need to 'wake up and smell the coffee' because their ain't going to be many of these wonderful creatures left in the sea soon!

Disappointed. I read the thread title and really hoped it was true.
I bet he had some heavy backup behind the cameras. Mind, will still give him big-balls status.Mind boggling to think that all but the fins end up as waste-product. As said above; will not be eating in any restaurants with SF on the menu!

I for one will not now eat in a restaurant that serves shark fin soup.
As for Ramsey being a bad MOFO. A couple of weeks ago the news reported that he'd been doused with petrol and threatened with automatic weapons!!! Didnt get that on camera did they!
The petrol was being thrown from the roofs of the flats - they didn't make a lot of it in the programme, though - and I suspect when the guns were pulled, the camera probably wasn't running. As for Ramsey being a bad MOFO. Ramsey the animal rights activist - hmm. Doesn't stop him having foie gras on his restaurant menus...
I did think there was a small element of hypocrisy in it. There again, I would gladly consume foie gras whilst being fully aware of how it's produced. I wouldn't go near shark fin. I suppose I rationalise it by knowing that the carcass of the duck / goose is still used for food once the liver has been removed, yet the shark's finless body is simply tossed back into the water.ETA: Plus the fact that geese & ducks are sustainable and thus not endangered.

the times said it looks forward to the follow up where chinese restauranteurs go into ramseys restaurants and ask about foie gras!why do they not kill the shark before removing the fins surely it would be easier to remove them when it was dead? that footage where they removed it when alive was utterly utterly gross
The real issue is that the consumers of this product have no clue and dont care about the source and sustainability of the source for this delicacy.
It is a good thing Ramsey is bringing this to the wider public. If he can get support for it from the Chinese community in London...then the process is atleast started!

Time will tell with the restaurants in london that banned it.
I have a feeling they'll be selling it again in a few months.
Finning is terrible, however now I've read up on foie gras I'd have to say I think that's worse. Sure, the shark is in pain for a while before it eventually drowns but those geese/ducks have to go through being over fed over and over and over for long periods of time.
Huge amounts of hypocrisy, imo.

Many member sof the British population seem to manage feeding over and over and over for long periods of time
