TV has been dumbed down to the lowest possible denominator. You want reality TV, you get it. In truth, my TV is only here for the kids to watch their programmes on satellite kids TV otherwise I watch maybe two or three hours a week and most of that is the news.

I lay the blame at the doors of America for all their 5 minutes of fact documentaries which revel in reminding the thick about what happened in the first part and looking forward to what they won't tell us in the 3rd part. Have attention spans diminished so badly? What about TV that can actually educate rather than irritate.

We Dive At Dawn was on BBC2 this afternoon. Great film.

Mrs k had to watch the Corrie omnibus.

This was fine, as it gave me time to set up the new LCD TV and PS3 and GT5, ps off to the pub for a couple of sherberts, then return for another bevvie or two to play GT5 proper.

Every year I think it can't get any worse and it does.

Really don't understand the logic of the schedulers either.

Was perusing next weeks TV schedule on my Sky EPG and noticed that next weekend, they are showing 3 movies which are terrestrial premieres:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man

I'd have thought these would be better scheduled over Xmas rather than the New Year.

I thought when the licences were auctioned off one of the requirements was a clearly defined percentage of new and original programming, it now seems that the BBC have decided if all of the others can get away with not complying to it then why should they bother, as it has become clear no one is going to enforce it.

In the past the TV companies used to boast about how much the had spent on Christmas to win the ratings war, when did you last hear that talked about

So far all of the TV I have bothered to watch has either been a repeat or is an old film, only things worth watching so far have been, Miracle on 34th street, Scrooged, The man who would be king and all been on several times before. of course the new Top Gears were good.

Just have to add my rant to this too.

Most notable for me was the lack on offer for children. When I was a wee lad, I used to be excited about getting up early in the morning to see what Disney film might be on - Aladdin, Robin Hood etc - or some great cartoons.

Without fail, every time I turned BBC One on in the morning the schedule read BBC Breakfast, Homes Under the Hammer, To Buy or Not to Buy, Bargain Hunt etc.

ITV was the same - DayBreak, Lorraine and then loads of cookery tosh.

I know CBeebies exists, but still. Disgraceful.

Don't even get me started on the offerings for adults. Upstairs / Downstairs was about as good as it got.

Edward Scissorhands was on. On film 4 they were running the Die Hard films. 1, 2 and 4 I think.

Been some ace films on...but you have to search for them.

I have plussed Upstairs Downstairs, anyone tell me if it's any good. Loved Downton Abbey.

It was very good. Dry wit, looks fantastic, and Keeley Hawes is always an incentive to watch anything!
