So everyone tells me it's the 'best movie of all time', the kids tell me I NEED to watch it.

Well, I just tried, it's on Sky, so thought what the hell, let's see what they're talking about...

Oh dear. Annoying 'blue tinge' fking everywhere, very poor and stilted CGI/animation, purile story line, wooden 'acting', looks like it was made in the 90's at best.

Utter, utter, ste!

Or is it just me? confused

Merry Christmas by the way beer

I wasn't sure at first but gave in, watched it on Blue Ray and really enjoyed it.

I saw it in the cinema, 3 hours I'll never get back. Whilst it is visually impressive (in 3D anyway), the storyline is very weak. Very much over hyped IMO.

I am yet to see it, the advert for it coming on Sky looked a bit poor, almost Disney-esque with the CGI. I thought it was supposed to have stunning visuals?

Still not sure if I'll bother watching it or not.

i saw it on dvd and while i loved the design of the place, the overall fairy tale story didnt do it for me. Some good scenes in it and lovely creature design, but as a film, meh.

Tampopo might perhaps be the "best movie of all time", it has a great script, finely observed performances and immaculate production devoid of superficial gloss.

Conversely, I doubt Avatar will even be in the top ten films with blue aliens in future decades...

Blimey! not this again smile

There were pages of lovers and haters last time but I personally loved it. Had to be seen on a big iMax in 3D and I thought it was jaw dropping.

I work in the business and there is very little that impresses me especially all the latest flat screen tellys and digital as well as HD TV. The general public have been conned.

Avatar on my decent CRT still looks good and even is very watchable on my iPod or HTC. To be honest all films look like bad 90s effects on modern flat screens and that's why our engineers hate them.

There were one or two good bits but as a whole it was a hole!

Has there EVER been a film that was 'bigged up' to you that exceeded your expectations? Anyone?
I really liked Avatar but I missed all the hype, if I hadn't it might not have lived up to it perhaps.
I missed the hype for Inception too, another one I liked.
It's a Wonderful Life was not worth it though - loads of people raved about it, THEN I watched it!

Not necessarily the best movie of all time, but I liked it for what it was and the technology created to film the 3D is a turning point for cinema

Good call Oakey!

To be fair to Avatar, you needed to watch it in the cinema, in 3D to 'get it'. smile
