Booked my tickets for the Imax already. Going to see it Friday.

It's one of only a handful of films that me and my old man both want to watch at the cinema, District 9 being the last.

yes - there are some reviews. Mostly along the lines of "This years Avatar".

'Good on the graphics front but poor on story & script' seem to be the main thrusts of the critics comments I've read.

I must be honest, I really expected a complete Turkey what with all of the hype surrounding it but even so I'll still be in the queue.

The Daft Punk soundtrack has just been released, and has resulted in my "which subwoofer" thread in the Hi-fi section..... ;-) Quite literally banging biggrin

Majority of reviews seem to:

Great visuals
Great soundtrack
Poor script
Not much fun.

Bet it gets an immediate 8.0/10 on IMDB due to the fanboys but once the hype dies down it'll fall to about 7.0.

I haven't seen a good review yet + I didn't like the original so I wont be booking any tickets.

Each to their own. I think the original was a fantastic film.

I'm cautiously optimistic on this film and will almost certainly go to see it at the cinema.

I watched a preview in 3D, visually the film is absolutely amazing, one of the best visual experiences I have ever had. I genuinely think it would have been visually better in 2D though, 3D took some of the quality away.
It looked exactly as I'd expect it to 27 years on, the designers did a great job.

Story-wise, its not gonna win any oscars on this front and in actual fact is a near on remake of the original story, but the "legacy" part is new and done in a clever way, I enjoyed it.

Acting - no complaints, everyone was good

Overall - One of my best cinema experiences of 2010, don't go in there expecting too much and you will have a thoroughly good time.

I never liked the original much, too. Now if they did an update for The Last Star fighter......

The Last Starfighter is an absolute classic, no need to remake or continue it though as it was perfect 1st time around.

Then again I would have said the same about Tron before I saw the new one

Just got back from seeing this. I must admit, I really enjoyed it (i've not seen the first one either) Fantastic experience in 3D, the effects were mind blowing and Daft Punks sound sound track really made the film, liked it so much I'm on Itunes now buying it. It has to be the best film I've seen in 2010 to date I think.

I highly recommend seeing it, it reminded me of the Fifth element and Blade runner.

Saw it yesterday, thought it was worth the wait. Utterly amazing film. Decent plot. Great visuals...I don't know what else to say, I just utterly loved the movie. I think I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow.

I think they have left it open for another film.

Saw it today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Went to see it at the IMAX in 3D and I think it was worth it!

As said elsewhere; plot, acting etc. so-so but the visuals are just incredible and the soundtrack is superb. Probably not great as a 'film', if you see what I mean but an absolute sensation as an experience, if that's not too wky...

Saw this on Saturday night. As above, the visuals were stunning and the music was fantastic. However, I felt a little let down by the plot and storyline and, to me, it didn't really contain enough action.

I'm a big fan of the original and love these type of films. But, maybe I was expecting a bit more. I'm crtitical of the plot because of the story itself, I just thought there would be a bit more action. The lighy cycles seemed better in the old film too. smile

I saw it yesterday at Imax and when I left I felt a little blugh....slightly deflated I think. Visually its beyond stunning, but it confused me.

However, the more I think about the film, the more I think I enjoyed it. Its one of those films that takes time to understand, but the more you think about it the more enjoyable it becomes.

Watched this on Saturday in 3D and was a little disappointed to be honest. The visuals are stunning with the new digital world looking absolutely amazing but the 3d didn't really add anything to the experience, it would have looked just as good in 2d.

However the script and plot didn't really get going. It's basically a remake of the original but with a more uneccesarily convulted plot which doesn't really go anywhere. The first 30 minutes with the build up and initial "grid games" are brilliant but then the film just seems to fizzle out. There isn't anything in the second half of the film to match the initial first half and the climax is a bit dissapointing.

It's not terrible by any means but certainly not as good as I was hoping it could be.

Missed opportunity 3/5

I liked it... a lot. Sure, I was suckered in with the high gloss visuals and Daft Punk soundtrack, however I thought the story and acting were definitely OK. I actually preferred the last 2/3rd's of the movie after the initial action scenes, from the nightclub scene onward.
