ranting

My heart sinks whenever they put on a programme which tries to explain advanced mathematics to the non-mathematical public, and "Beautiful Equations" was true to type.

The trouble is that advanced maths is never going to make sense if you try to explain it in simple terms to someone who hasn't got the necessary background mathematical knowledge. Instead, the inevitable result is that you just reinforce the average punter's opinion that mathematics is a load of old bks. I don't believe that anybody who watched this programme, and who previously didn't understand equations (or formulas, really) , has now got any clearer idea of what the concept is all about. In particular, I doubt that the presenter (can't remember his name) understands equations now any more than he did before making the programme.

Right. As though that experiment really proved the existence of antimatter. All it proved was that those guys came up with some method of making pretty bubbles move in different directions.
