Atomic explosions
Discussion
No idea what section to put this under so let's try here - my son is doing a project on nuclear weapons and I was trying to how him that (somewhat cool!) slow motion footage of a building being blown apart. I'm sure you've all seen it - that 2 story house which gets hit by a shock wave and is recorded in B&W.
Despite a variety of search terms in Google I just can't find it. I've tried all sorts of combos of nuclear/atomic/explosion/building/slow motion/test/etc but can't find it anywhere.
Yet it's a classic piece of footage that they always seem to use when describing the cold war on documentaries.
Anyone else able to find it - or refer me in the direction of any of the many documentaries that have used it?

Well, here is the USS Saratoga as she was:

Here is her bow:

Bomb elevator:

5 inch gun turret forward of the bridge:

Inside the bridge:

Suspended above forward plane elavator:

Forward anchor hawser:

1000lb boomb in hanger:

What's the time? Tooth hurty!

HIJMS Nagato as she was before hand:

Bridge superstructure (See the diver with 2 lights to left for scale!)

Forward 16 inch guns with tampions in place

After 16 inch guns

2 of the 4 props:

USS Lamson as was:

Stern depth charge launchers:

Midships torpedo tubes:

Anti aircraft guns

The "Lamson Crunch" (This is the stern section of the ship which got crumpled when it hit the sea floor)

USS Apogon beforehand:

Conning tower:

Bow:

Stern:

Shark n diver:

All these piccies were taken at Bikini Atoll, where the Americans did their nuclear tests from 1946 - 1958
In July 1946 they dropped a bomb from the air and also detonated one underwater - both the same size as the ones used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki - to see what they would do to a bunch of redundant American and captured Japanese & German warships.
The answer? They sank!!!!!!
Actually, that's not strictly accurate. The ones nearest the blasts sank, the ones further away didn't!

Just noticed also on Military Channel they are showing the Bikini Atoll wreck dives, the Paul Allen (MY Octopus supported) with the 8 passenger Pagoo submersible dives. Its on right now, must be repeated as well.
