By best mate loves a bit of terrible, controversial Zombie / Horror type film so am thinking of getting him one for Christmas as a silly present.

Pretty sure he has seen:

- Cannibal Holocaust
- I Spit on Your Grave
- Dead Snow

Any ideas?

Might be too mainstream, but the crazies is a good film (I've only seen the 2010 version). If not then doghouse is another great zombie film. I don't know how anyone could not like either of those to be honest.

Does it have to be zombies? Or does it just need to be controversial?

There are tons of zombie things about at the moment, but if he likes them he'll probably have seen them anyway.

There's The Horde, a French zombie action thing which is just out on dvd.

Or if he just wants controversy, try Human Centipede, Grotesque or Meat Grinder.

White Zombie - terrible acting, rubbish picture quality and the first zombie film ever made (in 1930 something)

For just basic horrors (not zombies, sadly) there's been a glut of French product recently that are definitely worth a punt -

Frontier[s] is brutal and good.

Inside is brutal and good.

Martyrs is brutal and very good indeed.

Yep - it's a good, 'left of field' horror, but not that scary and NOT a Zombie film! Makes men wince though! wink

I'd suggest a very good comedy/ horror - 'Zombieland'.

Cheers, yeah we watched Zombieland the other week - love that film.

Thanks for suggestions so far all.

Was tempted by this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000ZK9SVC/ref=... but concerned it might not actually be 'funny'.

It's silly and ridiculous and cheeky and fairly gory.

It's not Have I Got News For You or anything.

Cannibal Ferox, Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond, City of the Living Dead, House by the Cemetary.... The list of late 70's/early 80's 'goodies' is quite long.

1985's Return of the Living Dead is still good for a laugh, as is Re-Animator.

Modern stuff - Rec and Rec2 are pretty good, as is the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead - I have The Horde, not half as good as I hoped.....
