Watched it again today. It's great, of course, but is anyone else a bit miffed that with all that gadgetry the Aston still does not get him out of the brown stuff?

My Favourite of the series, if only for the best line uttered in a Bond film!

"Do you expect me to talk?"

Also my favourite Bond movie. Connery is the epitome of cool, the Aston is just great, the Stoke Poges golf match, OddJob decapitating the statue, and some excellent filming locations with a great finale.

It also has a fricking laser.

I never joke about my work, 007.

Interetsingly, Thunderball was on the other week. When Q enters the room on location, Bond says "Oh no..." as if he really doesnt like Q.

If you read some of the trivia from the movie, it's great

things like, Auric Goldfingers part is all dubbed

the model made of fort Knox, was apparently so good, that after the film, it was actually put on display at fort Knox!

and the vault door, is actually in a bank somehwere in america!

I noticed exactly that same thing! It's always jovial but that one was a little more serious.

The voice you hear, is not that of the actor playing the part!

The guy played Auric couldnt/cant speak much english iirc

"Gert Fröbe, who did not speak English well, was dubbed in the film by Michael Collins, an English actor. In the German version Fröbe dubbed himself back again. Of his role as Goldfinger, Fröbe later remarked: "I am a big man, and I have a laugh to match my size. The ridiculous thing is that since I played Goldfinger in the James Bond film there are some people who still insist on seeing me as a cold, ruthless villain - a man without laughs."

The vault was the former Midland Bank in London.

Was the Aston really a DB5 as referred to in the film? I did see a suggestion that it was a late model DB4 with DB5 style headlamps, and that they only referred to it as a DB5 because the DB4 was out of production by the time the film came out.

I was adding that the vault was the Midland Bank, not the door.

Gert Fröbe also played the Baron in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; was that dubbed too? It would have been funnier if they'd got Connery to play the inventor...

I think Thunderball is a far better film. Better plot, more believable, plays to Bond's strengths (Scuba etc.). Even Never Say Never Again is a good rehash.
