I caught up with this one-off, special episode last night, and I must say, Discovery Channel did an excellent tribute to Phil Harris, who died earlier this year from a stroke.

I know the Bering Sea crab fishermen work hard, and live dangerous lives in treacherous conditions, but Christ, did Phil Harris party hard as well!

He quite happily admitted to spending most of his not inconsiderable earnings in the early part of his career on hookers, coke and Harleys; “I smoke like a train, and I’ve done most drugs know to man”. Yet at the same time he was a family man (or at least, tried his best to be), and thought the world of his two sons, and genuinely wanted them to succeed.

He came across as a really genuine guy, who worked hard, partied hard, and lived his life to the full - the way he wanted to.

But in the end, it was hardly surprising that his body cried “enough!”, and gave up.

Liked the bit when he went back to his old careers advisers house, who said he would amount to nothing, with a bag of cash and
offered to buy their house.laugh

A top bloke, sadly missed........
