Classic Louis, I like the way he doesn't openly judge but does push the questions that people want answered and shows a drive to get to the truth, and then just lets them show there true colours.
Quite shocking viewing though, really hard to know what to think, some/most/70% of them are clearly scum but some seem genuinely remorseful, like the guy talking now who has been voluntarily castrated and is looking for somewhere to live.
Where does Louis go from this though? Surely this is 'the' taboo subject? The worst and most shocking people?

Interesting conspiracy theory from the inmates just then.
200k/annum per inmate from the government means there's not much incentive to get them "better" and released.....that's no bad thing though, they're all pretty foooked up by then look of it.
Theroux does a good job of these programs and is doing a particularly good job on this very difficult subject.

Maybe he has spoken to people who have comitted worse crimes (murderers in SA) but this surely is the worst of all crimes in many people eyes (sexual abuse of children) and it may be difficult for him to move forward from this.
I'd like another series of Wierd Weekends, something a little lighter and sillier and since it's been 10(ish) years since the last series there are plenty of newish types of loonies to meet like MMORPG addicts, Mental 'celebrity' followers, Doggers, PH forum users, MMGW protesters, those obbsessive American Prius drivers....
It was an interesting piece and as said, very Louis Theroux. Imagine trying to re-integrate into society after that though - with Megan's Law I wouldn't rate their chances very highly. I think some of them probably saw the place as a place of refuge and they did say that the guy they were trying to find a suitable house for had had 1100 turned down!

It was interesting to hear the social worker saying it was essentially unconstitutional. I wonder if any of the 'inmates' had challenged that in a court of law, or is it a Guantanamo Bay for peado's, where the constitution doesn't apply?
Louis did say at one point that the whole thing seemed 'very unconstitutionle' when talking about how the inmates were forced to be there.In many peoples eyes though if you commit crimes like that then you forfeit your constitutional rights anyway.
