Grand Designs - 18th March 09
Discussion
Here's my chance to start a Grand Designs thread for tonights episode!

Peel Castle. Unfortunately a 'revisited' program so does that mean 55 minutes of repeat, then 5 minutes where Kevin pops in for a quick look to see how things are going?
At least this week it's definitely not a high-tech glass & wood 'visitor centre' !

So next week presumably we get a Grand Designs Abroad.
I thought that was a really nice restoration project, and in particular with English Heritage taking a realistic approach. Some might see it as a green light to convert any old ruin into a UPVC windowed parody of an '80's Wimpey home with a few Robin of Sherwood touches, but it wasn't, they preserved as much of the old as they reasonably could, they respected the original layout and new work was restrained and of good quality.
My only issue was that I thought they had a lot more money than they were letting on. The fact that they are running it as a B&B proves nothing. If you have a stupendous property in a beautiful location why not turn a little profit to help with the upkeep and give Lucinda something useful to do with her time.
I wonder-
Will the new work have weathered down?
Have they finished the previous unfinished bits?

on the 28th of January on the GRAND DESIGNS NEWS SERIES thread I said:
Looking forward to it, but fully expecting to be dissapointed as it will likely consist of about 3 new programmes, and then the rest of the series will be 'revisiteds'.
Hope I'm wrong though
