Best Sci-Fi Movies of all time?
Discussion
We've had sci-fi machinery and action/sci-fi movie threads but what would you consider to be the best Sci-Fi movies of all time?
Some of my contenders:
Terminator 2
Bladerunner
Battlestar Galactica (2 part mini series)
Aliens
2001 A Space Odyssey
The Day the Earth stood still (original)
But the best IMO Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.
Apologies for a nerdy thread!

Star Wars;
Soylent Green;
Planet of The Apes;
Roller Ball;
Logan's Run;
The Omega Man (No I'm not in the NRA, btw;)
Alien;
Terminator;
Predator;
Robocop;
Blade Runner;
War of The Worlds (the recent Cruise job, quite epic;)
The Time Machine (early 60s one with Rod Taylor;)
The Abyss;
Event Horizon;
Dark City.
For obscurity's sake, one from recent times called The Thirteenth Floor.

The Phantom Menace. That Jar Jar Binks was brilliant.

You are so blind! You so do not understand! You weren't there at the beginning. You don't know how good it was! How important! This is it for you! This jumped-up firework display of a toy advert! People like you make me sick! What's wrong with you?! Now, I don't care if you've saved up all your fifty 'p's, take your pocket money and get out!
Personally, I'd put the first 2 Alien films up there, along with Serenity (which I thought was fab even before seeing the series) and Gattaca (something a bit more interesting than the usual sci-fi stuff).
I always try and watch Galaxy Quest when it's on too...
IMDB top 10, think it's based on user ratings -
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars (1977) 275,320
The Matrix (1999) 315,960
WALL·E (2008) 123,108
Alien (1979) 147,561
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) 187,539
Aliens (1986) 140,107
Metropolis (1927) 31,601
The Prestige (2006) 153,712
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) 133,957

Dune was dreadful - an insult to the books.
I agree the books were much better, but I rated the film. (Though I'll have to see it again to be sure, it's a long time since I watched it....)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0142032/
This is good too:

I'm a big fan of Sci-fi. So, in so particular order:
StarWars / Empire Strikes Back
StarTrek The Motion Picture (Director's Cut - much, much better and truly epic)
StarTrek Wrath of Khan
StarTrek Next Gen - Best of Both Worlds
2001
2010
Terminator 1&2
Contact
Back to the Future Trilogy
Event Horizon
Matrix
Blade Runner
Deep Impact
Jurassic Park
Starship Troopers
The Day the Earth Stood Still
War of the Worlds (both versions)
Robocop
The Abyss
Close Encounters
...and I am sure there are more.

Oh, sure but you have to eclpise modernity and reach back to those halcyon times.
In such a fashion I recently reprised my love for the girl Loren (at her peak) with the stellar cast of the similarly matured 'Fall of The Roman Empire' - an indulgence of fully formed technicolour raraely witnessed, cinematographically speaking, these days.
Going off 'Zulu' on Blu-ray, such rich movie canvasses are there to be hedonistically indulged without excuses being necessary, very much like that Daytona that Hammond chap drove on tv not so long back.
Put on some tweed, fire orf a couple of rounds and get thoroughly trelliced with whatever pickles yer liver.
