What astonishes me is how someone was able to gain so much control over the lives of people who were apparently so 'normal' and quite successful.
Why on earth would you listen to some fake online doctor who only communicates with you via email? Bizarre!

Coincidentally, I watched the second episode yesterday evening.
I guess he made each member of the family assume another one had made first contact with the doctor, so it was each other they were trusting, rather than a stranger.
Given how elaborate his web of characters was, he was a bit bloody stupid not to use a different phone for the emails. And he should have done some tidying up at home, too.
